Laporte changed nationality just before the competition.
But he's a white guy changing from France to Spain, so he clearly doesn't count.

Players are eligible to represent a county if one of their parents is from that country. Hence the Socceroos have Souttar & Boyle who have Scottish passports and Karacic who has a Croatian passport.Guest wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 12:13 amWhich current international footballer playing for which country isn’t really a citizen of that country?Expatissimo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 9:56 pmI didn't even bother watching the game. This should be enlightening . . .
It's pretty common, though has nothing to do with money.
Ironically, the players with no familial connections to a country need to become a citizen and have spent several years in that country (4 or 5) before they can represent. Hence China now has a couple of Brazilians and some of the players from the Gulf States have rather Latin sounding surnames. There's reasonable grounds to suspect these are primarily financially driven decisions as they rarely hang around once their playing careers are over.
Right.
So the UK premier league is full of UK players, not, and it’s ok if one white Scot wants to play for England but not if he’s black. (There’s no black Scottish. Bad example but you get my drift)

pew, pew, pew, pew!
Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo - Argentina & Portugal respectively, but actually they are Gods who just couldn't resist but put on a pair of boots & play the beautiful game. Or they could be lizard people. Definitely not human & their birth certificates are about as solid as Obama's for the "egg-hand" protagonists!Guest wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 12:13 amWhich current international footballer playing for which country isn’t really a citizen of that country?Expatissimo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 9:56 pmI didn't even bother watching the game. England have kept a clean sheet for ages and are a similar team to Italy - a defensive tough team to beat.
As such they shouldn't be judged by the game against the Sweaties, who basically got 11 men behind the ball.
Football's coming home.
Thinking about buying an England shirt for work just for the craic, when.....football comes home.

Are the Irish about to invade England?! Could be worse I suppose! ...

I was 7 years old the last time England reached an International football tournament final.
So I should have been enjoying this moment.
But I can't.
I speak not of the penalty controversy, the pen-light being shone in goalkeeper Schmeichel's eyes, nor the petty little fouls and gamesmanship.
I am sickened by the moronic so-called English fans who booed the Danish national anthem.
Thanks, jerks, for spoiling what should have been a memorable occasion.

What does the Danish national anthem sound like again then Springrain?
Exciting game.
The defensive tactical smarts of England vs Italy will be interesting.
Will Southgate opt for Grealish, or go with a more defensive approach again?
Grealish is tough to get the ball off of.

Maybe all the vaccinations are to blame - the people now pulling the strings thought it'd be a funny joke?springrain wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 7:21 pmI was 7 years old the last time England reached an International football tournament final.

Yes, Grealish is a great sub, but I do reckon GS should play him from the start against Italy.
I am angry about the so-called (England football) fans booing the anthem, but I suppose I will try to forget that come the final. The defensive players such as Shaw, Maguire, Rice & Philips all provide attacking options, though I wish someone would tell the latter not to try to shoot too much - his shooting was hopeless!

SP, I would like to see all those phoney fans who boo opponents' anthems given triple vaccine doses and sent into quarantine for a few decades!Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 8:07 pmMaybe all the vaccinations are to blame - the people now pulling the strings thought it'd be a funny joke?springrain wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 7:21 pmI was 7 years old the last time England reached an International football tournament final.
