Afghanistan
Lt. Col. Stu Scheller, a man with principles !
A Marine officer who filmed a viral video calling out senior military and civilian leaders for failures in Afghanistan resigned his commission “effective immediately” in a new 10-minute video Sunday and threatened to “bring the whole [expletive] system down.”
Lt. Col. Stu Scheller was dismissed Friday from command of the Advanced Infantry Training Battalion at Camp Lejeune, N.C., over the original video. In the new one, he claims he is not currently under investigation and that he likely would be allowed to ride out his remaining three years until retirement if he chose to stay silent.
“I don’t think that’s the path I’m on,” he says in the video, shot inside an “abandoned school bus” in eastern North Carolina. “I’m resigning my commission as a United States Marine, effective now … [and] I am forfeiting my retirement, all entitlements. I don’t want a single dollar.”
in short words: F...k u all !

Looks to me, another one, losing his mind over a war he was part of. Many will probably follow.
US authorities have long known the potential threat of vets going postal. This latest dude sounds more schitzo than PTSD.

It's a fact that the moral of those US Troops engaged in Afghanistan is at a rock bottom low. The decision by the Biden Admin. to pull the carpet underneath the feet of those to be rescued out of Afghanistan got Jim Jones a Vietnam Veteran to speak out>
A particular concern is veteran suicides. A Brown University study estimates that 30,177 personnel who served in Afghanistan and Iraq have died by suicide, greatly exceeding the 7,057 who died in military operations. The VA reports that in each year from 2013 through 2018, the suicide rate for veterans was 1.5 times that for non-veterans. People close to veterans need to keep attuned to signs of suicidal tendencies.
The impact of the mess in Afghanistan will likely be much worse in the month to come.

Britain looking carefully at suicides among Afghan veterans
Same, same no different to the situation within the US Military. Perhaps the solution would be to dismiss both governments. That would perhaps make the world a better place !
LONDON, Sept 6 (Reuters) - Britain is investigating whether or not some veterans from the Afghan war have taken their own lives because they are so devastated by the chaotic withdrawal of U.S.-led forces from the country Britain's armed forces minister said on Monday.

Maybe, Western societies should start to learn you can not "bring" a democracy to other countries, countries which' society is often still living in the Middle Ages (with mobile phones).
Huge amounts of military involvement and equipment won't make a difference on that.
These countries do have "laws": The rule of the strongest, not the rule of paper and courts. It's not that difficult, once you set aside your own morals and open your eyes to reality. Whatever timescale you apply to a withdrawal, it will always end up in chaos, just to the difference in cultures.

Ghetto Building on US mil. Bases in the US ??
U.S. Military Building “Eight Small Cities” to House at Least 50,000 Afghan Refugees
Fort McCoy, about 180 miles from Milwaukee, has the largest number of refugees. As of September 3, the remainder were being housed at Fort Bliss in Texas (6,200), McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey (3,700); Virginia’s Fort Picket (3,650), Fort Lee (1,700), and the Marine base at Quantico (800); New Mexico’s Holloman Air Force Base (650) and Indiana’s Camp Atterbury (65).
At least 123,000 people were evacuated from Afghanistan after the Biden administration ordered U.S. troops to withdraw last month. Some already had connections in the U.S., but others need more help adjusting.
VanHerck said the eight “cities” could house at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees. Exactly how long they’ll be there is undetermined, but Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the government’s commitment “is an enduring one.”
“This is not just a matter of the next several weeks,” Mayorkas told reporters. “We will not rest until we have accomplished the ultimate goal.”

I partly think letting Afghan's sort out their own affairs without any interference is a good thing.
The Taliban may be barbaric, but that has been part of the Afghany daily lives for probably thousands of years, and no outside force is gonna change that reality overnight.
So maybe just letting them develop things themselves, or fight for things themselves is almost the better option.
Buddhism partly gained hold in SEA, because people got sick of the fighting.

Barbaric certainly but pretty sure Afghanistan hasn't had Sharia law for 1000's of years and that's bad news for women. Would definitely agree that these countries sort their own politics out.

Brilliant cartoon from The Times this morning, referring, of course to the upcoming US Open ladies singles final between two amazing teenagers:

More Than 100 Americans Being Denied Entry into U.S. after Evacuating Afghanistan
Ryan Mills
Thu, September 30, 2021, 1:34 AM·5 min read
A group of more than 100 U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents who escaped from Afghanistan on Tuesday are being held in custody in the Abu Dhabi airport after American agencies denied their charter flight’s entry into the U.S., according to leaders of Project Dynamo, a civilian rescue organization.
The group flew out of Kabul on Tuesday afternoon after getting clearance to leave from the Taliban, Bryan Stern, a U.S. military veteran and a co-founder of Project Dynamo, told National Review in a telephone interview on Wednesday morning. He believes their’s is the first private rescue flight to leave Kabul since the American military left the country on August 31.
There are 116 people in the group, mostly U.S. passport and green card holders, along with a small number of Afghans with special immigrant visas, Stern said. Photos of the operation provided to National Review show many young children are part of the group.

"A giant can of worms". Afghan's walk off the military base where they are processed for immigration.
Well, that was lurking on the Horizon from day 1. Neither the military nor most of US Communes want Afghan Refugees in their neighborhood. New "Ghettos" will go up fairly quickly and the outcome will probably look nasty given the rampant racism in the US.
