Greece extends border wall to keep fleeing Afghans out of Europe
If there is one country in Europe that has had enough of Refugees (Syria and Afghanistan in particular) and the consequences to house and feed them, let alone to get them sent on to other EU States it's Greece. Most Reports in the Media talk about Afghans that worked with NATO Forces incl. their families are rescued. That means for the US allone about 100.000 or even more. My personal prediction of the oncoming refugee push lays in the millions that will try to get out and many of them will push to get to Europe.

Hmmmm, the Taliban are not a democratically elected bunch, all cooperating together, though more a raw bunch of war-lords, by incident having the same religion as a common background. So, what Muppet 1 says, will probably not be supported by Muppet 2 to 10000. So, yeah, chaos, violent chaos.Dylan Quint wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 2:39 amThe Taliban had said everything gonna be ok, asked the people to stay at home but those who want to leave can. So everyone who has made their way to the airport are now ring fenced and the Taiban will sort through the throng for the 'traitors' and I doubt it will be like Vietnam, where people were 're-educated'.
After listening to their eloquent PR dude, with his pledges of no violence, no retribution or revenge etc, it was reminiscent of the KR enticing people back to Cambodia to join the rebirth of the country in '75.
The US are saying they may need to stay longer than 31st August, which was the deal with the Taliban, but why would the Taliban agree to that?
Looks like the bigger Problem of Refugees and Afghan Terrorism is now also a concern for China.
China weighs how best to bolt the back door to terrorists from Afghanistan
Beijing fears instability in Afghanistan could pose a threat via other neighbouring countries such as Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan
The danger of a spillover after the Taliban’s takeover raises the importance of cooperation between countries in the region
China has stepped up defences on its border with Afghanistan to guard against potential terrorist threats, given the turmoil after Kabul’s sudden fall to the Taliban
But the narrow Afghan-Chinese frontier is not the only entry point, with less reinforced borders between Afghanistan and its other neighbours, such as Tajikistan, representing a challenge for the region’s security alliances.
There are growing concerns for the Chinese government that instability in landlocked Afghanistan following the militant group’s takeover could spill across vulnerable Afghan borders into Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to the north, as well as threatening other regional players such as Pakistan, Iran, Russia, India and Turkey.
The main chinese concern is however that it's muslim province of Xinjiang where more than a million Uighur's are held in detention camps will be the next big Terror Hotspot in the World .

IS now a potential game changer for Rescue Ops at Kabul Airport
IS threat forces US changes to evacuations at Kabul airport
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Potential Islamic State threats against Americans in Afghanistan are forcing the U.S. military to develop new ways to get evacuees to the airport in Kabul, a senior U.S. official said Saturday, adding a new complication to the already chaotic efforts to get people out of the country after its swift fall to the Taliban.
The official said that small groups of Americans and possibly other civilians will be given specific instructions on what to do, including movement to transit points where they can be gathered up by the military. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss military operations.
The changes come as the U.S. Embassy issued a new security warning Saturday telling citizens not to travel to the Kabul airport without individual instruction from a U.S. government representative. Officials declined to provide more specifics about the IS threat but described it as significant. They said there have beenno confirmed attacks as yet.

Importing a Headache ?
Texas as a state has a certain reputation and had it among foreigners since a long time. Now Afghan Refugees will be housed (temporarily or not) in the same facilities where migrant children that crossed the mexican border where held.
Plan for Texas to host Afghan evacuees gets bipartisan support though experts are wary
Biden claims that so far more than 22k afghan refugees have been evacuated and relocated to Fort Bliss. I'm sure the Refugees are glad to got out of Afghanistan but they have no idea how their future in the Land of Hope will look like. Racism is rampant in the US and arabs are no exception. I hope they can all transfer to a safe location and enjoy a peacefull life, soon.

Not sure Afghans consider themselves "Arabs".
Interesting point.Guest9999 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 3:51 pmNot sure Afghans consider themselves "Arabs".
I wonder of most Arabs are recognized as Semites (which they are, btw)
https://www.britannica.com/topic/Semite
That would make any Iran/Palestinian-haters anti-Semitic, yes?
Elephant in room.

Austria's Kurz says he opposes taking in any more Afghans

VIENNA (Reuters) - Austria's conservative Chancellor Sebastian Kurz opposes taking in any more people fleeing Afghanistan now that the Taliban have seized power, he said in remarks published on Sunday.
Austria took in more than one percent of its population in asylum seekers during Europe's migration crisis in 2015 and 2016, and Kurz has built his career on taking a hard line on immigration, winning every parliamentary election since 2017.
While the European Union grapples with what to do with Afghans who assisted it over the past 20 years, Kurz said coming to Austria was not an option.
"I am clearly opposed to us now voluntarily taking in more people and that will not happen during my chancellorship," Kurz said in an interview with TV channel Puls 24. Excerpts of the interview were released before it was broadcast later on Sunday.
Austria has more than 40,000 Afghan refugees, the second-biggest number in Europe after Germany, which has 148,000, according to data https://www.unhcr.org/refugee-statistic ... url=Gsn90q from the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR for 2020. Austria's population is nine times smaller than Germany's.
Austria is also a neutral country and not a member of NATO. It sent only a very small number of troops to Afghanistan. NATO's website https://www.nato.int/nato_static_fl2014 ... acemat.pdf lists it as having sent 16 troops for the Resolute Support Mission, an effort to train and advise the Afghan security forces.
"I am not of the opinion that we should take in more people. Quite the opposite," Kurz said of Afghans fleeing their country.
"Austria has made a disproportionately large contribution," he added, referring to the large number of Afghan refugees and asylum seekers already in the country.
He said people fleeing Afghanistan should stay in the region, adding that neighbouring Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan had only taken in 14 and 13 Afghan refugees respectively, which matches the UNHCR data.

Most Afghans don't. There are some Afghan Arabs who descend from the Arabs who arrived in Afghanistan during the conquests of Afghanistan. Most of them can't speak Arabic and they assimilated into the local cultures centuries ago.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 8:17 pmThey certainly don't. What I find most tragic about the Taliban takeover is that generations of Afghan women will grow up without learning about Duchamp and conceptual art.
