What do these megapacks do?

They are massive rechargeable batteries. They are almost the size of a shipping container and cost over 2 Million USD.
Intended to be used by energy companies to store energy - I think mostly from renewable sources - which can then be used at a later time.

They sound pretty useful, I understand that large storage systems were an element lacking in the electrical grids till now.

The price cuts don’t seem to have bothered the market too much, aside from a bit of noise during pre-trading.logos wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 4:38 pmYou're right, lothrop o et something, California.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 1:12 pmThe Nevada factory is producing a lot less than this - less than 50 a week AFAIR . But there is a new factory elsewhere, I forget where - maybe California, which almost exclusively works on mega pack and it has massive output potential.
I’d expect that this new factory will ease the wait time for them - but at $2.5 Million a pop the customer base is a tad limited.
It is the new Factory that will be producing 10,000 packs a year. That are sold out until Q3, 2024
Did you see the huge price cuts announced today by Tesla on most of their models in the US and in Europe ?
Actually they are simply coming back to precrisis levels. Which will boost demand at incredible levels and is likely to annihilate any kind of competition.
Of course the stock price takes another hit in premarket.. I can already picture thé headlines "margins are collapsing!" Etc.
They know what they're doing and follow through their long term strategy.
I managed to shift some cash around and doubled my Tesla position at $103 about a week and a half ago. Still down overall but I suspect could be positive by end Q1 or soon after.
Will be delighted if your $500 prediction comes true.
There have been a couple of big movers in the past few weeks. Most of my Chinese stocks have done well, with an interesting exception of Chinese EV stock.
It’s been a good start to the year for markets. US markets are up 4 percent, FTSE up 5 percent, most of Europe up 7-8 percent and HK a lovely 10 percent. My investments and pension fund have recovered all the losses incurred in the second half of 2022.
Yet here you are, living in SE Asia.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 3:51 pmIt’s been a good start to the year for markets. No I’m not, you insufferable old fool vlad.
But I probably will be in a few years time. Were better to spend the ill-gotten gains of a good career, especially when you have options.
I’m sorry you don’t have options.

Good for you, my pension hasn’t had the same recovery.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 3:51 pmIt’s been a good start to the year for markets. My recent fund peak was Jan ‘22. The recent recovery has still left me 5% beneath that value. I’ve just let it lie though, I suspect you have probably been adding to the pot during the low period.

Not particularly - only the regular month contribution as part of salary sacrifice. In fact I’ve taken a bit out in recent month to finance some property work.
Not sure why it’s done so well - I’m fairly exposed to emerging markets and I think they have outperformed. Plus these are GBP returns and that is weak, thus helping performance of foreign asset funds.

Investers that shorted Tesla last year made a fortune. 2023 is looking equally dismal for equities again especially this one. Tesla as a brand has lost it's luster due to Elon Musk and his constant barrage of right wing shit tweeting. I think he knew he was never going to meet his own 2022 sales projections forcing him to dump more shares than he wanted to last year as he struggles to make ends meet and pay his high interest Twitter purchase. Where's that new CEO at?
Freedom is not a state. It is an act. It is not some enchanted garden perched high on a distant plateau.. Freedom is a continuous action we all must take, and each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society.-John Lewis

The 4th quarter Tesla results has seemingly impressed the market if the pre-trading numbers are anything to go by.
Pre-trading up 9% so far, likely won’t stay at that level during full trading, but let’s see.

Hey Sonic1, your comment didn't age very well did it ?Investers that shorted Tesla last year made a fortune. 2023 is looking equally dismal for equities again especially this one. Tesla as a brand has lost it's luster
Mind you it's only 63% up so far this month.
Still a ways to go before it starts reflecting the true potential.

Ford does recalls. GM does recalls. Mercedes, VW, even Porsche, do recalls.
Tesla doesn't.
"The word “recall” for an over-the-air software update is anachronistic and just flat wrong"
