The USA has just been thrown back a hundred years. Poor women will once again be forced to have illegal abortions and fear getting caught. A court full of conservatives arguing along religious lines (and male dominated) has deemed it fit to rule on the lives of half of the population. To what end? Please the fundamentalists and Trump?

The Supreme Court also did not outlaw abortion. They overturned a ruling that guaranteed abortion as a constitutional right. Practically this means that each state will have their own abortion laws. Some states will probably outlaw it and others will allow it.
The decision is not throwing the US back by hundreds of years as Roe v. Wade happened in 1971. They are ending fifty years of federal abortion rights.

My understanding is that the Sup Ct decision simply means that state laws covering abortions are no longer unconstitutional; in other words, states are now allowed to enact anti-abortion laws. Not saying this is a good thing, but it's not as though the Sup Ct decision makes abortions illegal on a nationwide basis. Many - most likely the majority - of the states will continue to allow it.Hanno wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 6:35 amThe USA has just been thrown back a hundred years. In any event, the Dems like to keep the abortion issue as a card in their pocket, so I'm sure that this latest development won't be the last.

Half of US states could ban abortion as Roe v. Wade is overturned
26 states have laws indicating that they intend to ban abortions, according to the Guttmacher Institute. Nine states have pre-Roe bans that could potentially be enforced with the ruling overturned, and 13 states have "trigger bans" in place, meaning that abortion will almost immediately be banned with Roe no longer in effect.

Agreed, but then there are only about two members of the fairer sex on this forum. Just like the Supreme Court.

Okay, fair enough - just over half the states indicate that they may ban abortions. Let's see if they do so, but your article indicates that it'll be a slight majority at worst.Hanno wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 10:20 amStarving Pelican wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 9:54 amMany - most likely the majority - of the states will continue to allow it.Half of US states could ban abortion as Roe v. True, but probably not much solace for a poor woman in the South that cannot just fly to New York for an abortion.Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 11:01 amOkay, fair enough - just over half the states indicate that they may ban abortions. Another dichotomy for the US, the land of the schism.
Requiring vaccination is apparently tyranny and then they pull this. I’m certain that banning birth control and gay marriage is next.
