Comrades, next lesson is how to apply black shoe polish to the hair and mustache.... A real Ruble saver and I do this all the time.

Russian fashion shows have come a long way since the start of the war.

Russia is talking of moving nukes into Belarus, which begs the question why.
There is little tactical advantage (Russia already has nukes in positions where it can strike with little warning) and no strategic advantage (nobody is planning to invade Belarus, so a deterrent isn't needed). Certainly there is more scratching of heads in Europe than quaking in boots.
One reason may be to reduce the excuses available to Lukashenka to avoid committing troops to Ukraine (he regularly talks up the threat of a NATO invasion and keeps a sizeable portion of his forces near the Polish border to emphasise the point).
It also may be just another step in the process of absorbing Belarus into Russia.

Putin's rationale was regarding the supply of depleted uranium anti-tank munitions for Challenger tanks. The Sweden & Finland threat consisted the movement of tactical nuclear weapons to the Finnish border & Kaliningrad.Dylan Quint wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 3:42 pmPutin has previously said he would put missiles there ir Sweden and Finland(?) were getting all smoochy with NATO.
Absurd.
Russia assumes UN Security Council presidency
,Russia has taken the presidency of the UN Security Council despite Ukraine urging members to block the move.
Each of the council's 15 members takes up the presidency for a month, on a rotating pattern.
The last time Russia had the presidency, February 2022, it launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
It means the Security Council is being led by a country whose president is subject to an international arrest warrant for alleged war crimes.
The International Criminal Court - which is not a UN institution - issued the warrant for Vladimir Putin last month.

Prigozhin (the owner of the Wagner Private Military Company) has taken the side of a father who was sentenced to 2 years jail for discrediting the Russian military (he was investigated following a complaint from a school due to an anti-war picture drawn by his daughter). Prigozhin, possibly with an eye on the public mood in relation to the case, publicly lambasted local authorities involved and offered legal support to the father.
'Putin's Chef' is more often countering official statements in relation to de-Nazification and de-militarization, painting a more realistic picture of what is happening on the ground. This offers a counter-point to the Russian Ministry of Defence, implying the MOD is more focused on politics and propaganda than martial prowess.
How this plays out in the long-term remains to be seen, however Prigozhin is incrementally presenting himself as a straight-talker (in stark contrast to the ultra-nationalism he expressed earlier in the War) to a Russian public whose media is leaning increasingly into jingoism and exaggeration.
Should the anticipated Ukrainian counter-offensive prove highly successful then Russian domestic politics could get a lot more interesting.

A string of mysterious explosions and a poisoning have targeted Bulgaria's arms industry, which has been a crucial supplier of weapons to Ukraine. But amid mounting evidence of Russian involvement, critics accuse Bulgarian authorities of dragging their feet in their investigations of these unsolved blasts.
A new @svobodna-evropa documentary looks into evidence of Russian sabotage, claims that there have been cover-ups by Bulgarian authorities, and whether Bulgarian arms depots are still at risk as Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine enters a second year.

If only we could say it costs nothing. Billions of dollars wasted. Ridiculous salaries and benefits, buddy-mongering, typical NGO strategy.

Finland just joined NATO. Russia's perceived border woes just got 830 mile longer. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/04/worl ... raine.html

The Russo-Ukraine War has, from the very beginning, imperialistic overtones. This is why Finland as a neighbour felt the risk of being subject to Russian aggression was greater under a policy of neutrality than being a part of a broad alliance.
In the past there was confidence in Soviet & Russian security guarantees. The invasion of Ukraine, despite assurances from Putin that no such course of action would be taken, shattered that confidence.

A disaster of epic proportions made by Putin that will be felt for decades. It could be Putin's greatest achievement so far. KInd of looks more like the Queen's in danger here and not a checkmate from purely a chess perspective.

I think people who believe Finland joining NATO is a checkmate move are being very, very optimistic,
