Sympathy for the Devi....
It's with a heavy heart and a touch of anger and sadness that I write here.
.Ahhh Cambodia. Phnom Penh was my home for 5 years. I left in September last year and returned to boring normalcy in New Zealand. I had to go, it was time but I didn't want to leave. Work was finished. When the Daily got shut down, the Post got taken over and RFA targeted....realistic media was finished. I stayed on...still. . living the dream. I had a two bedroom apartment on Norodom for $350 a month, a packet of cigarettes for 50 cents, 50 cent cans of beer and as you all know, really good food at the right places. I learnt to speak Khmer. Some Khmer's were amazed that I could. Some Khmer bar girls were pissed off that I could. A barang that can understand and speak the language....so much more cost effective. Without work I still wrote and read. All of it about Cambodia. Amazingly, some of the best stuff I read was from the Khmer Times. The BS that was written every day...editorials..opinions...Mohans wisdom. The journalists that toed the party line of misinformation. Coming back to Auckland the misinformation coming out of Cambodia since February has topped everything I ever saw there. I've lived there as have you expats, we never believed any of it. The majority of the Khmer's do.
Currently, Auckland has 28 confirmed cases of corona virus. Cambodia has how many? Really?? The misinformation, the BS, the "Cambodia is too hot" the cruise ship welcome and Chinese money influence, is going to so hurt Kampuchea and I hate that. Cambodia was my home for five years, regardless of the crazy absurd moments that we have all seen there....I loved it.
To all you expats who live in Cambodia...I wish you all well. Stay safe.
# When that Cruise Ship entered Chinaville and his Excellency welcomed and gave out warm handshakes to delighted passengers they should have also had a song played. Mick Jagger could have sung it. What is it.....Sympathy for the....."Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste........pleased to meet you...hope you guessed my NAME"

The Big Chief should learn to speak English.
It's 'Normality', not 'normalcy', which is a bastardisation of cultured English.
While we're on the subject (which we aren't) it's Khmers, not Khmer's.
But one does have a certain sympathy for ... who is it again?
Did anyone mention 'Mossad'? Or the 'fake Saudis'?
I like 'Stream of consciousness' when it is written well.
This isn't.

You're welcome!
I don't like American English.
I have googled 'Normalcy' and I still think it's crap.
It is my opinion that your piece is not 'well-written'.
Don't bother 'googling it' as it is just an opinion.
But, thanks, too, mate, for your post.
And it can certainly be written well - or it can be well-written.
Either way, yours is not.

I liked it but you’re probably better off not smoking those 50 cents a pack smokes.
I changed to 555 when all the Marlboros were counterfeited. Ho Chi Minh used to smoke them, or so I’m told. A good choice for a dictator. Then they flooded the market with counterfeit 555 as well.
What do you smoke, springrain?

I'm not trying to say that I'm original or anything. That is my honest answer.
555 - Yellow pack. They're the closest to Benson & Hedges back home.
Keep being an original owner, Alexandra - I like it.
And keep being your original self, Logos - I like that, too!
Adios, Comrades!

Are you suggesting Uncle Ho was a dictator? Or am I reading it wrong?Alexandra wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 8:05 pmI liked it but you’re probably better off not smoking those 50 cents a pack smokes.

I liked his post too. A man of wealth and taste...
Up the workers!
That's misinformation, NZ has 28 total testing positive, not Auckland; purely academic though as these figures will have changed by today.Auckland has 28 confirmed cases of corona virus.

No. Vladimir doesn't post here anymore.
He’s not welcome here. I received some flattering messages from him out of the blue recently. Apparently I am a toxic Zionist paid by scobienz.
