That’s fake news. Any legal immigrant should get their social security number soon in the immigration process. The article seems to be referring to people who for some reason don’t have it, illegal immigrants make up most of that.

I know nothing about American immigration, but the gist of the article is that the stimulus check is denied to Americans married to somebody who doesn't have a green card yet, not to "illegals" which would be reasonable.
Why would they discriminate against tax paying Americans on the basis of where their partner comes from?
And what makes it fake news ? there are many examples in the article that seem very real. Have you read it?

It means no check if you file jointly with a spouse who doesn't have a social security number.

Title of article is why I called it fake news and some of the contents.
Article - "U.S. Citizens Married To Immigrants Are Blocked From Getting Stimulus Checks"
Reality - Most US citizens married to immigrants are getting a check. That includes me.
Article - "Ashlee Ramirez, a registered nurse who has spent the last month working long hours in an emergency room and helping to intubate COVID-19 patients, has not received stimulus money because she files her taxes jointly with her husband, Fredy, a Honduran citizen"
Reality - There is no issue with people getting checks after marrying immigrants. It is not because she filed jointly, it is because he did not get his SS#
Article - "there are a whole host of visas immigrants can use to come to the country perfectly legally (student or fiancé visas, for example) that won’t get them a work permit or a social security card. For people on non-work visas, it’s impossible to obtain a social security number until obtaining permanent resident status, which is a whole other process that takes a ton of paperwork, a ton of money, and months or even years of waiting"
Reality - WHAT THE FUCK. You apply for your SS# TWO WEEKS after entering the US. And it arrives TWO WEEKS LATER. They are making up that it takes years? I am a source since my wife got hers right after coming to the USA. Here are 2 more sources if you want to check https://www.immihelp.com/k1-fiance-visa ... n-process/ & https://www.visajourney.com/guides/soci ... ty-number/
Article - "...Trump and GOP lawmakers think at all. They just hate immigrants, and now, by default, American citizens who associate with them."
Reality - Oh shut the fuck up with your article of nonsense. I am no fan of Trump but the person writing this "Christina Marfice" from "Scary Mommy" is scaring me that she has a platform to spew her bullshit on. I get annoyed BECAUSE I am not a fan of Trump, this GARBAGE discredits the crusade against him. When legit articles come out people already discount them as fake news because of THESE CUNTS. FUCK YOU

Getting a SS number is a bit more complicated than you make it out to be, if you dont apply for it before the stamp in the immigrant's passport expires.
Since marriage visa immigrants arent able to work initially many of them don't apply before the stamp expires, hence not able to apply until they get an actual green card even though they are legally residing in the USA.
Getting a green card after you get married is not a quick application for many people, it took my wife like 8-9 months to receive the card. Also, some people just put it off because of the cost.
And wouldnt you know, govt. not issuing green cards at the moment so if you came on a marriage visa and didnt apply for a SS number before your 90 day stamp expired you are currently in limbo for both green card and SS num.

Then if she's not working, and has no SSN, then she doesn't need to file taxes, right? So you could just file yours and be fine, but instead you want a tax deduction as a married couple and file jointly?Sublime wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 8:37 amGetting a SS number is a bit more complicated than you make it out to be, if you dont apply for it before the stamp in the immigrant's passport expires.

This has no bearing, as they're looking back at 2018 tax filings, not 2020.And wouldnt you know, govt. not issuing green cards at the moment so if you came on a marriage visa and didnt apply for a SS number before your 90 day stamp expired you are currently in limbo for both green card and SS num.
Pretty much, didn't say is was a smart idea. Some will say they filed jointly to have more evidence of bona fide marriage when applying for permanent green card.
I'm guessing most people in this situation, the spouse was working off the books somewhere so its all karma.

Getting a SS number is extremely easy.Sublime wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 8:37 amGetting a SS number is a bit more complicated than you make it out to be, if you dont apply for it before the stamp in the immigrant's passport expires.

Best and recommended option- get it 2 weeks after you arrive.
Option 2 is to get it same time as work permit, not sure why you’re asking they wait til green card. It’s just ticking a box on the work permit form.
Every decent guide recommends getting the SS# after 2 weeks. But if you fuck that up you get it with work permit
So you’re telling me it’s not that easy IF you fuck up the first 2 easy options? What a shocker!!In order to receive a Social Security Card when your EAD application is approved, check "Yes" on Question 14, which asks "Do you want the SSA to issue you a Social Security Card?" and also check "Yes" on Question 15, which will allow USCIS to share the information on Form I-765 with the SSA.

Will the check arrive in the mail to PP?
Does the IRS know to put the phone number?
Has anyone got the check in the mail?
Can the embassy announce for those people still here?
I asked, they referred me to IRS website that is old. No one is working there.

No, international post is suspended. Even if they did arrive you wouldn’t find a bank to cash them.
