The soldier and the arrested could well be related, father and son?
Same name and similar accent, ages could match up.
Someone here must be Facebook friends with him... Check his friends list for another mark aspinall...

If this Mark Aspinall is different from the soldier Mark Aspinall then either we are not the only ones confused or he is purposely making the connection.
Yesterday I received emails about this thread. They were written by “the boys” at “the base”, which is standard Mishmash vocabulary.
Either soldiers in the field are reading this thread and worrying about their friend, or somebody wants us to think that Mishmash is soldier boy — Mishmash himself.
Our confusion is not accidental. Either Mishmash really is soldier boy or he wants us to think that he is.
One thing that sticks out to me is that there’s no copy of his passport in the press. That usually comes early, unless the perp is unable to produce his passport because he doesn’t have one or if he doesn’t have a valid visa and he doesn’t want to be caught.
Khmer440 is the only site that has made the connection to Mark Aspinall. Not because we know for a fact that it’s his legal name, but because Mishmash told somebody that told somebody that it is his name and they wrote it here. For all I know, his legal name could be something else.
It is odd that the arrest of a TEFL teacher with 35 years of construction experience generates emails from “the boys” at “the base”.
I contacted Wendy Aspinall yesterday by email. I have not yet received a reply, and she has not yet logged into the forum. That is strange. I would think people that have been looking for their long lost husbands and finally find them would react within 24 hours of notice. She would of course not be in a hurry to react if she doesn’t exist in the first place, and it was in fact Mishmash posting pretending to be Wendy to plant a trail of evidence that his name really is the same as the name of a famous war hero.
Only time can unravel this speculative mess, but at the time being I think my theory is that Mark Aspinall is not Mishmash’s legal name and any suggested military connection is all a part of a construction worker’s con. Alternatively their names are the same and he reaps the benefits that come with people believing that he is a famous war hero.
It smells very much like barstool secret service stories, doesn’t it?

Mark Aspinall is a very common name.
As far as i can figure, correct me if i am wrong, the only connection to the war hero was speculation on this forum and possibly FB.
From what i can see Mishmash has made no claims to be related to the war hero.
Mishmash does appear to hang about with guys in uniform, at least - based on his sons birthday photo, and the fact that he has a gun.
He may be overhyping his insider status - but i can see no clear reason to disbelieve his basic story line. Yet!
Not defending him - just trying to get things straight in my own mind.

“The boys” from “the base” wrote cryptic emails stating that Mishmash was important to England’s national security.Hairy-nosed Otter wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 12:43 pmFrom what i can see Mishmash has made no claims to be related to the war hero.
Like I speculated earlier, I think either they were written by Mishmash himself or “the boys” at “the base” serving England have mixed them together just like us.
Have the Daun Penh Boys expanded into Sen Sok?

I’m finding it extremely unlikely that a British military colonel named Glenn Whitfield stationed at an army base is reading Khmer440 and worrying about his friend Mark Aspinall who has been setup in Cambodia with a gun in a dispute over the payment of a bar bill. I sent them working login credentials so that they could post on the forum despite being flagged as a spammer.
There are hundreds of posts OTOF written by Mishmash containing the exact phrases “the boys” and “the base”.

LOL, hilarious!
That is the dumdfuckest impersonation of a Col Glen Whitfield that i have ever seen in my life.
Or should i say, invention of a Colonel - i can find zero Col. G. Whitfields listed in the British Army, or any other armed forces lists - anywhere, anytime.
Pathetic secret whisperings too. Childish stuff.
But still, you gonna have to come up with stronger evidence than those two common phrases as a connection to satisfy me that Mishmash wrote the emails. ie, the boys and the base.
Personally I lean to this part of it being a troll setup - jumping in on the opportunity.
"Coincidently" we have had a convicted troll pop up right here today. One of the newbies lasted about six hours on TOF before being perma banned for the same kind of childish pathetic, but devious, trolling.
Exactly his style.
But I am open to any solid evidence. god knows, anything is possible.

I've wondered about this. I certainly don't carry my passport with me, and would be surprised if most expats did. If I were to get arrested, would they bring me to my house first to get my passport (locked in the safe), or how does that work?Alexandra wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 12:24 pm

They would probably have his missus or landlord or anybody else that is available and has access bring it to the station.
