It is one month since you said that we would see within days that Sweden was right. Do you still think they are doing it right?springrain wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 8:58 pmRubbish!
We will soon see, despite the 'Doom & Gloom' predictions, that Sweden was right.
We shall see - very soon - It will be days.
Let us see.
Let us see. https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/coron ... 55274.html
Sweden records highest weekly deaths per capita in Europe
Sweden has recorded the highest number of coronavirus deaths per capita in Europe over the past week, it has been revealed.
Data collected by Ourworldinsata.org showed that the Scandinavian nation, which has been criticised for its relaxed lockdown rules, had 6.25 deaths per million inhabitants per day between 12 and 19 May.
That figure was the highest in Europe and just above the UK, which had 5.75 deaths per million.

^^ what a load of bollocks you write. Spain is something like 600 per million while Sweden is 370 per million. This is total figures over the past two months.

Sweden, which has opted for a more open strategy in combating the virus than other European countries, has the highest number of deaths in Europe per capita from the COVID-19 disease over the last seven days, data showed.

Other countries slow down but Sweden is still high. Doesn’t quarantine prevent the spread?

Last seven days is the key. What about the last two months? What about the next wave which is almost a certainty next winter? What about about all the other unaccounted deaths such as suicides and mental illness?

As far as I'm concerned, it's still too early to conclude that Sweden's strategy doesn't have merit. Sure, more people than usual have died there recently. But since they can only die once, they won't die from other diseases later this year. My point being, most (!) people who die from (or with) COVID-19 have severe other health issues when they catch it. It remains to be seen if many more people than usual die in Sweden this year. That will have to be weighed against the potential benefits of herd immunity, which are also speculative at this point.
I think it's good that different countries try different things. Next time around, we can all learn from their various experiences.

Yesterday, according to the Johns Hopkins University figures (as I saw them on worldometers), the UK recorded zero new cases.
I wish I could post this evidence, but, unfortunately, 'worldometer' seems to have crashed.
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries
But I noticed it at about 5 AM Cambodia time this morning (about 11 PM UK time yesterday). Yet there was not a single mention on the Beeb (which I scoured for some time this morning), nor on the other mainstream news outlets.
I would have thought that this was 'newsworthy'. But, no, not a sausage. OK, I accept that the testing in the UK is below par, but the absence of a single new case for the first time in about three months? Just another oddity in the way figures are reported? Has anyone else found a news outlet reference to this? Cheers.

It’s not newsworthy because it’s not true. JHU and worldometer for some reason didn’t pick up on the daily stats issued by the Department of Health which showed (from memory) around 2400-2500 new positive tests.

OK, thanks for that. Do you have a link or some other proof of what you say? You see, the 'new cases' figures have been rising, typically, by between 300 - 800 per day, so I find it odd that you 'from memory' claim it is well over the thousands.
A link would be nice. A link to your 'claim'.

These figures have been released daily for many weeks. They are the source that worldometer uses.
For some reason worldometer missed this figure yesterday but included the deaths.
