Yeah, took him 6 months in total.
It makes no difference to me. Half my posts are deleted whether under my user name or the guest function. It's as if I have a spurned lover/ demented female tracking my every move.

Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 9:29 amAre you saying that, if a registered poster posts as a guest, presumably from the same device, you know the guest post was made by the registered poster?Felgerkarb wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 8:42 pmThen sign up as a normal poster and say as much....or, post as your normal logged in self and stop whinging. Half the guest posters think they are being clever and posting as "guests".Beef Supreme wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 7:57 pmI like the guest function but maybe you can try vetting it a little better, half this thread has been about the guest function, at least move all of it to it's appropriate thread. I don't mind things going off topic, or even a couple posts of the last two dotard owners going off on each other, it's funny for a minute, but an interesting thread got rooted because of the guest function.Alexandra wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 12:21 amYes, but in those cases we can just reject the guest posts or change the nicknames. It’s not a hard decision for mods.Miguelíto (Guest) wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 12:17 amOkay, but it might take a sharp eye to notice the difference between Miguelito and Miguelíto or something similar.
Guest posts must be approved and regular members’ posts are published instantly. The fact that we have to moderate a post by “MigueIito” with a capital i instead of lowercase l for example makes it very obvious.
If Guest nicknames are abused I will just remove the function to set a nickname and randomize it for you, but I don’t think there’s a need to make a problem out of it at this point.
I have several technical solutions in mind and it wouldn’t take long to apply if necessary.
My opinion for what it's worth, carry on
Not really.

I don't think you had my email at the beginning. I remember Shizzle, the former tech wizard, asking me why I didn't have one registered.Alexandra wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 12:32 pmThere are several ways that guests can be identified. The first giveaway is writing style and IP. Ironically, people who post from strange locations in Cambodia are harder to identify than the only person who uses a specific VPN company. The most notorious trolls will even sign their guest posts with their known moniker or a slogan (“why did you kill the bat?!”) and pretty much give themselves away.
We have almost the same information available about guest posters as we have about regular users, except there’s no email and no historical posts to easily search for.

I later accused him of selling email addresses and it displeased him.
Don't know if you've got it now or not.

We don’t have it and I don’t think that’s a problem. Khmer440 has never verified email addresses but we do store what users supply in the email field.
