I believe the under age kids can receive some social security money until they are 18
They of course need to have some proof of citizenship.
The dad also needed to work, I believe, at least 15 years in the states paying into social security.
The kids should receive 75% of what he would have got.
**Feel free to correct me, but I'm sure googling can help out a lot more.

There’s the answer. Assuming the kids never lived 5 years in USA they get nothing.Phuket2006 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 8:24 pmThis was discussed many time otof, where he was an off, on again poster, kids get zip
Ta, never wanted to deal with it and not even sure he got them Consular Report of Birth Abroad
As a nonresident, your child may have to meet the residency requirements of the SSA. This includes your child living in the United States for at least five years with you or the other parent. In some situations, however, your nonresident child doesn’t have to meet any residency requirements, such as a child who resides in a country that has a totalization agreement with the United States.
I do hope they’re set with other forms of support. And they at least have US citizenship so they can work in the USA once they are of age.

Why do you say his widow gets nothing? Isn't there a $255 death benefit at a minimum and then other possible payments?Guest wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 6:14 pmIf he registered the kids as US citizens born abroad they may get something.
Certainly his widow will get nothing at all.

Ditto. It was the first thing i did post birth. Actually....second if you count getting shit faced to celebrate.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 9:31 pmI got my kid's foreign passport and citizenship together when he was very young. I would hate to think of the hurdles his Cambodian family would face if I died and had not done this. I hope Taabarang's
family have not been neglected in this regard.
Family planning 101.
I think you would be surprised at the amount of long term expats with khmer wives and kids who have not sorted their kids citizenships and / or not organised a partner visa for their wives to go live back home if/when the need/desire ever arises.

In some countries, like the USA, the partner visa is only good for 3-6 months after it's issued. you can't get the visa with no immediate intention of moving to the USA with the idea that your spouse may use it years later.
I agree that any Westerner who has a kid in Cambodia should sort out the kid's Western passport soon, as it's harder to do if the Western father is dead, especially if father and mother aren't married.
In Australia once you have been issued the partner visa the recipient needs to validate it within 12 months by visiting Australia- if only for a day.
The visa which is essentially actually a "travel permit " is initially good for 5 years at which stage it comes up for renewal. During that 5 years the recipient needs to have lived in Australia full time for 2 years or have a fucking good reason why they haven't or its goodbye to the visa.
Good story doing the rounds about a punchy, bar invading ex copper whose missus was turned back at immigration in Australia because they did not renew after the 5 years. Oops.

That’s fascinating. Knowing what happens in Australia is going to be of huge help to the dead guy’s American kids.

Was this the same Don who was in Laos during the Vietnam war? He was also a missionary for while.
Numbnuts all grown up
Even a tourist can get a 10 year visitor visa for the US
No, definitely not Taa Moan. Last I heard he is still alive and well.
440ers will recall Ta Barang as Rural Rage. He was the 440 member on point duty in Kampong Cham when Uncle Monty went missing all those years ago.

^^ , who is he and who is him? This thread gets harder n harder to understand. Aparently, I worked with the deceased around 2005 but have no recollection of him at all. Monty worked at the same place and I remember him very well! Suprising how many of the early teachers from NWI are now as dead as the school. Was the place cursed? Yes, the thread is drifting OML but that is how it goes.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.

That reminded me that I was on the phone to him a few times trying to sort out something to do with Uncle Monty's demise, can't recall the details but I remember him being quite guarded and reluctant to say anything about himself. He was very helpful though.alternative wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 3:26 pm440ers will recall Ta Barang as Rural Rage. Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
