I dont have have any kids, nor a wife, neither am I trying to leave Cambodia but rather trying to get back. I also have 120k$ in Acleda Bank which I can now access after six very stressful months of trying to get a replacement visa card. Futhermore, I have friends in Cambodia who are and having been willing to help me out. Finally, once I get back I am almost certainly going to be offered a teaching job if I want it. I believe my situation and his are very different but I will let you be the judge of that!Tony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 6:30 amHorace,

I don't think I've ever had a brawl here at all. I've been in the middle of a few, especially in the early days hanging out with Peaceman, but just trying to stop people killing each other. Chasing those tourists with a metal bar was just some dumb idea.Petrol Head wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:34 pmIt is well known that Lucan only brawls with backpackers who are younger and burlier than he.Guest69 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 12:20 pmHow come the Lucan hasn’t responded to the claim he was pinned to the ground by this knob. If this appeal is to pay that balance - or even some of it - donors might want to ask themselves why he hasn’t been able to clear a debt that works out at $37 a month in that time.
His post is from 2011........but that moto accident was before 2011.
When was his kid born? Is he referring to the premature birth of his son? He states in his fund drive that his kid is a little over 12 years old.
His sob story says that after the birth, he and his kid were kicked out of the clinic and had to resort to a "charitable children hospital"
How does Royal Rattanak hospital come into play?
I'll say again that this story is simply not believable and I think it is more of a case of a broke, out of work tefl jobber trying to get the fuck out of Dodge.

His accident was March 2011.
Rattanak was the hospital he was in after the accident presumably who he still owes medical bills to.
Isn't it more likely that it's a broke, out of work tefl jobber trying to raise money to fund his continued existence in Cambodia?Guest wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:35 pm

Saying "I'm desperate to go home" is a great way to raise money from friends and family back home, but it's very rare for down and out expats to voluntarily leave Cambodia.
There was a thread about his accident in 2011.

kiR mentioned the embassy had to pick up the tab so I assume his debt is to the embassy rather than the hospital. That’s probably why he needs so much money - he can’t just skip the bill and run without paying it back.

If the US embassy now holds the debt, surely they wouldn't have allowed him to renew his passport in the intervening near decade?
The way for them to get their money back would be to repatriate him then garnish his wages.
How could they force him to repay whilst living in Cambodia........also with all this contact with the embassy regarding his hospital bill.......wouldn't the issue of his son's citizenship haven been brought up as well?
How about his visa and work permit? It would be a disaster for the 12 year old son who doesn’t even have a passport if his father was arrested for immigration violations and deported.Guest wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 3:47 pmIf the US embassy now holds the debt, surely they wouldn't have allowed him to renew his passport in the intervening near decade?
Does he need $30k to pay an overstay fine?

I didn't want to post on this thread originally, because even though I may have had a small issue with the guy I had almost forgotten about it and don't have time to bear ill will for anyone, especially if they are in difficulty.
What I'm concerned about is the status of the child born here to foreign parents? I'd imagine they would be eligible for citizenship of either parent's country, but not Cambodia? In general you need at least one Cambodian parent to get citizenship here. As far as I know the parents are estranged from each other so that makes the paperwork very difficult to organize. I do hope they can manage to resolve this, being stateless and without papers is a dreadful situation to be in.

The kids citizenship status is indeed worrying, and you are right the kid is not entitled to Cambodian citizenship Extremely irresponsible to not get the kids citizenship of either parents country straight away...let alone 12 years, no matter what the circumstances any responsible parent would do everything in their power to get the situation resolved...inexcusable.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
