St 120 (or thereabouts), if memory serves.
Zeppelin Cafe closes down after 19 years
Yep - that is where I first went to it back in 2002 or thereabouts. I think it moved 2 or 3 years later?Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 8:46 pmI think it was originally on St 86, the street that led to Boeung Kak Lake/ St 93. It was a much bigger premises than the later one on Pasteur.
Too late now, Walkabout is long time gone, It was great place for fun.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 9:13 pmYou remember the Walkabout? That's a distant memory but by the time it closed I hadn't been there for years.
The problem here is the average millennial just has no taste for decent music. It's hip hop and worse now that attracts the crowds.Felgerkarb wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 9:34 pmMany, many memories of late nights listening to metal after stumbling in at 2am. Whenever I walked in Jun would always play Black Sabbath shortly after my arrival, as well as whatever band I had on my t-shirt -- usually something very heavy, depending on the shirt, splatter, grindcore, doom, etc.. The man has an eagle eye and excellent musical tastes.
Another Phnom Penh legend passing into history, going to miss Jun and Zeppelin.

God bless you Lucky I have only 5 years and trying to go back for good next month.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 10:59 pmThanks, I try my best but that's not really accurate! I've had an interest in the country for a long time but I've only lived here full time for 15 years, which was long after it had already become very normal. I met a guy recently who posts here and he's been here 30 years, other people like Michael Hayes and Al Rockoff are still around and were here first in the early 70s. I'm a total newbie!

The original bar was on south side of St 136, between the central market and Monivong. It was opposite all the Chinese restaurants, which was ironic considering Jun hatred for mainland China.

Talk about old times. Walked into a local dry cleaners and it was full of sewing machines and two Asian ladies-Cambodians. Then met the boss Anthony Sandford. Arrived in Phnom Penh in 93/94. Worked for Denzil on Mekong Airlines, thought he had the Snooky Casino licence. Described the drive to the beach with the curfew and the danger from bandits.
Knew all the old timers of course and he was an election monitor.
People remember him?
Is Denzil with the boat still around.

Ya, I know him. I had to stay away from LTO and him because they were election monitors. Also had to stay away from reporters as well. Why? Because hanging around US government types could reflect badly on what they were doing here. Been nice these last years being freelance, I can associate with any of you ne'er-do-wells.crazyjohn wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2020 7:02 amTalk about old times. I think the original location was on Street 136, to the west of Central Market opposite the row of Chinese restaurants - I recall going there several times in 2004.. Thereafter it moved to the lakeside, then Street 51 and finally to 278. Though I may have missed one somewhere. Jun could certainly clarify this point!
Jun should autograph albums, would get lots of buyers and decent cash (if he needs it)

I suspect he'd be more like to autograph Chea Eik before he parts with a piece of vinyl ..wotatosser wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2020 2:07 pmJun should autograph albums, would get lots of buyers and decent cash (if he needs it)

You are right of course, I don't think I ever went to that one.guestlist wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2020 8:13 amI think the original location was on Street 136, to the west of Central Market opposite the row of Chinese restaurants - I recall going there several times in 2004.. Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
278 is the 4th location according to their FB
I always liked a bit of Zep after a good hash.
