Some places are just locked down, curfews etc. 15 days in a posh Bangkok hotel doesn't sound too bad by comparison
Would you do a 15 day quarantine just to get 4-6 weeks of freedom in Thailand or Cambodia?
Care to share the name? 80% is amazing. I can't find anything like that. Most would give me 30%, and I have a work permit.orde wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 5:28 pmCambo is great without most of the tourists too. PP fully open but incredible hotel deals around. I'm living like a lord with over 80% discount on my hotel suite. Plus hardly anyone else around so I have the pool to myself.
These vaccines are going to really piss on my bonfire. I'm really glad I was here for these Halcyon days.

What is the connection between a work permit and hotel discounts?

I would do it to visit my wife/daughter even if that meant only a few days with them as PSD Kiwi said. Fortunately, they are with me so I don't have that worry. However, if 2 weeks of my max 3 week vacation was eaten by quarantining to see extended family then I just can't justify that. Unfortunately, as soon as they drop the quarantine, flight prices will go sky high and we'll probably be priced out. It's going to be tough to catch up with the in-laws over the next year.
At times, decent hotels will discount more for residents or those on work permits compared to regular tourist prices. Also I work for a large organization that has corporate rates at various establishments.impresario wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 1:02 am"How much for a room tonight at your fine establishment?"johnny lightning wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 12:19 amWhat is the connection between a work permit and hotel discounts?

80% seems fabricated. The hotel would be running at a loss.

i dont think prices for flights will jump.
Why u would they? there's not going to be a huge rush of people once again travelling.
People have been hit hard economically and vacations are not exactly essential in life.
In fact, i think you will find great deals on flights as the airlines try and fill their flights up

Let's see, but I also do believe that the times of extremely cheap flights will be gone for a long time.

I think that depends on whether competition will remain. One can argue that the business model of the average airline - inclusive of rock-bottom fares - means its finances are precarious, and that they aren't built for times like this. But how often do we experience times like this?

Less airlines will mean less flights, which will mean less competition, which will mean higher prices. As Hanno said, the days of cheap flights will be gone at least in the medium term. The economic Armageddon is just beginning and it's going to get a while lot worse.Phuket2006 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 8:48 ami dont think prices for flights will jump.

Shorter than 14 days would be reasonable for locations where a significant Covid-19 spread is present.bongme wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 12:13 amI have to chime in I did the Sokha 2 day Qtine back in August. Everyone is different however I was chomping at the bit to get out of that hotel room on the final morning. Cannot imagine 2 weeks pacing around a hotel room.
Having said that would I go through it if I had to yes. I'm hoping they come to their senses soon and reduce it back to the previous which was working fine. CDC just recommended new guidelines.

Cambodia's aim is zero cases in the wild (though quite disputable, if that is reality at the moment), which implies you can not have a low potential for community case introduction. So, I don't think, this is going to happen for Cambodia.
On top of that, I would not expect the quarantine to be lifted for those being vaccinated ......
And yep, after 2 days, I also had enough of it, though that might also depend on the pretty low quality of the room itself (despite the charge of USD 45 per night with low quality but very expensive meals).

If they don't lift the quarantine for those who have been vaccinated, what's the fucking point?
It's my understanding that the vaccines as they stand now don't stop you catching or indeed spreading c19, they just stop you getting sick from it.johnny lightning wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 12:12 amIf they don't lift the quarantine for those who have been vaccinated, what's the fucking point?
The big questions are..
Why are airlines insisting on you having the jab. And what's the point of the vaccines at all unless you are at high risk of it killing you.
The vaccines are designed to stop you catching and spreading the Chinese bat virus,
They will fight it and prevent you from becoming infected.
