That's probably because posts on this forum tend to be written and not spoken.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 5:35 pm
But yes, I speak Australian "English" not the "Queen's English" which I may add is seldom spoken on this forum.
Vale "Ta Barang" and may other forum aliases

So what , fapsara is international "written English". And especially so on an international open forum such as this?
Who is included? Who in the English speaking world is excluded? Only those not identical to yourself perhaps?
Please expand on your linguistic prejudices and intolerances.

Well, fapsara, are the following to be excluded from contributing to this forum:
The English. + The Scots + The Welsh?
How about Australians? Americans? New Zealanders? never mind Canadians etc. and those that are not mono-lingual or , unlike many on this forum those who are multi-lingual?
Come on man: speak up or for ever hold thy tongue.

Thank you Felgerkarb. Self-evident I think to any reasonable understanding of spoken or written English, even on this forum.Felgerkarb wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 3:35 pmThe certificate counts as a birth certificate in all instances one is required in the United States.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 3:24 pmYou may be correct in the terminology... To the best of my knowledge, there is no international authority that regulates the conventions of written English.
I'd like to see Australians who constantly use "should of" instead of "should have" excluded.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 7:04 pmWell, fapsara, are the following to be excluded from contributing to this forum:

I can't tolerate listening to people speaking English with an Italian accent. Unless it's a hot Italian woman, and I'm drunk.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 6:41 pm

Nothing to do with English; you can not get an american BC issued if the kids are born anywhere but on american soil;Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 7:25 pmThank you Felgerkarb. kids born of an american overseas are issued a CRBA ,it is not a US birth certificate, it only acknowledges the child has an american parent and therefore can claim american citizenship.
SO i ask again, (as i am surprised she was able to get the crba without him as its the opposite what their website claims) ) will any of them receive any payout? I still say nada

Not sure it should disappoint you. It's a wind-up by OML that he was hoping to get some responses from. He's enjoying it and not cowering away somewhere as you may be imagining.scoffer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 4:09 pmI refer to the above 3 or perhaps 4 posts by the time I have replied.
This is what disappoints me about K440,
There is this PACK mentality where by you have to attack and gang up on a poster.
I read comments and complaints about TOF as it seems to be very USA biased and they gang up on anyone who does not conform to the USA point of view, K440 seems to be very British based, the British sense of Humor prevales and if you don't conform to the rules of conduct you get slagged off.
I struggle to find any value in posters looking to find fault in 1% or 2% of what someone said, rather than taking on board what the poster was addressing.
When he made the comment that this Khmer lady has better English than forum members, you have determined that the responses to that are intended to slag off OML because his humor is not British? How did you make that connection? Is there a connection?

I had imagined that getting the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) would have been quite a challenge, glad it was all sorted for the kids. They can petition for their mom to get a green card but need to wait until they are 21.

Gaining the official recognition that she has for her children is a very important achievement and is a very significant first step in possibly, just possibly, gaining further recognition and/or benefits.
It appears that matters relating to potential US financial benefits for possible beneficiaries such as Taa Barang's widow are dealt with by an office in Manila, and not in Phnom Penh, as far as Cambodia is concerned. As such, any next step may be protracted.
Personally, I am appaled, or for those using American spelling appalled, at the bitter and vindictive responses/postings that this woman's achievement has provoked.
The outcome thus far should be celebrated - not the excuse for vitriol or pedantry.
It also should give hope and encouragement to Cambodian widows of US citizens in Cambodia, regardless of their educational or linguistic ability, who either are or may may find themselves in a similar situation at some future date. Precedent is important in such matters, if indeed this outcome thus far is a precedent and not a simple a priori application of US law.

Does she need to go to Manila or can she submit the applications in Phnom Penh and have them send it for her?
The way I’m reading it, it’s not the woman’s achievements that has provoked the response but the way you put members of this forum down by saying that she speaks better English than them. If you had said that she was successful I don’t think there would have been any negative replies.
Anyway, good for her and fingers crossed that she succeeds.

Alexandra.
It may help to re-read my actual wording which was and remains ...As an aside, his Cambodian widow has far better written and spoken English and clarity of expression than many on this forum... Please note the word "many". The sentence serves no other purpose than highlighting her ability in English. It certainly is not a "put-down" as you state.
A truism if ever there was one, given the frequent use of gratuitous profanities and lack of attention to actual words or understanding of the words used by a poster, by many posters to this forum and to its detriment.

Fuck I misssed this update. That is seriously awesome news.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 2:24 pmPostscript to Vale Taa Barang.
As my final contribution to this topic I opened, I close it with the information that:
On 01 December 2020 Taa Barang's widow and children were interviewed at the United States Embassy in Phnom Penh.
His widow had collated all relevant US and Cambodian materials attesting to their marriage and their children's dates and place of birth etc. As an aside, his Cambodian widow has far better written and spoken English and clarity of expression than many on this forum.
As a result of this interview the children are to receive their United States Birth Certificates and Passports on 14 December 2020.
My congratulations to his widow in navigating this process unaided and obtaining the very satisfactory outcome she has.
Also, my commendations to the staff of the United States Embassy in Phnom Penh in resolving this situation in such a prompt and satisfactory outcome.
Over and out.

The Americans simplified the spelling of many words to make it easier for them. This is because Americans are worse at spelling than they are at counting.
