US Election 2020
He is far from politically relevant Moe. It is three months since he lost the election and he remains the key figure in US politics, dominates the news cycles and is the spiritual rallying point for half the political establishment.
Biden barely makes it on the front pages.
Trump is by far the front runner in voters’ minds to get the 2024 nomination of he wants it. The Dems have screwed up badly, and ensured he remains a cause Celebre for years to come.
They should have offered a vote of censure, ignored him as a disgraced loser and then allowed due legal process to take its course with pending criminal charges for a variety of frauds and tax issues.

As expected all over the world: Trumpie got acquitted.
It largely shows, that the US impeachment mechanism no longer works in today's' world, where the impeachment verdict goes largely along the party lines. Political aspects nowadays rule over hard fact judicial reality.
The Founding Fathers need to be resurrected and redo their job (they should have been informed about the upcoming scrupulous, uncontrolled social media) .....
TBH: I do think, this needs to become Biden's' biggest job, in the upcoming 4 years. Just prevent unscrupulous, gruesome populists like Trumpie can move into the White House.
Fortunately, the Congress slaughter based insurrection failed, otherwise we would have had a Trumpie dictatorship, for the upcoming years (fortunately Trumpie is already quite old).
McConnell states Trumpie is responsible for the Capitol Hill climbing and suggests more or less, Trumpie should be tried as a private citizen leading a mob into overthrowing a legal government. Looks to me, that might give Trumpie a death penalty.

What makes the front page of the international paper isn't terribly important to Americans, honestly. Trump is in the headlines for being the only president to be impeached twice here. That's not exactly a resounding victory for the Trumpits brand.scobienz wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 2:03 pmHe is far from politically relevant Moe. A lot is going to happen between now and 2024, including a lot of litigation that isn't going to shine favorably on Trump.
I find this narrative that the Democrats have screwed up badly and that they need to find a way to convert Trumpist voters over to their cause rather bizarre honestly.
If any party needs a moment of quiet reflection, it's the party that has last the last two elections by the popular vote and has lost the last election in the only way the truly matters. Hint: It's not the Democrats. There was a record turn out. The Republicans lost. Voter suppression didn't work. Populist appeal didn't win.
This navel gazing about the failings of the party that just swept into power seems a bit detached from reality, honestly. Maybe it looks like that from afar. From here in the heartland, not so much.

I has always been thus. The US impeachment mechanism has always fallen largely along party lines in the senate.v12 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 5:45 amAs expected all over the world: Trumpie got acquitted.

Hmmm, Nixon fled the scene, before the impeachment got reality, so one with a bipartisan supports. Clinton's impeachment was for a joke reason and should never have happened. Further, in the past, I don't know.moethebartender wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 9:14 amI has always been thus. I'm not sure, whether in today's polarized political arena, where political signature turns out to be the most important aspect, we can see this as a Democrats failure. I would say, more the opposite. We should not forget, 15% of the Republicans in the Senate did vote for guilty. Even McConnell explicitly stated, he considered Trumpie guilty as hell and Trumpie's legacy should no longer be the GOP future, Trumpie on his ousting way out, just as he did with so many loyal to him.moethebartender wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 8:36 am....scobienz wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 2:03 pmHe is far from politically relevant Moe. Prior to Mitt Romney voting to convict during the first Trump impeachment trial, no member of the sitting President's party has ever voted to convict an impeached President.v12 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 4:30 pmHmmm, Nixon fled the scene, before the impeachment got reality, so one with a bipartisan supports. So, Trumpie set another record: 15% of his own party did vote for him being guilty and ready to be thrown out through an impeachment. The guy is really scoring records (bad standing records, that to say).moethebartender wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 5:30 amPrior to Mitt Romney voting to convict during the first Trump impeachment trial, no member of the sitting President's party has ever voted to convict an impeached President.v12 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 4:30 pmHmmm, Nixon fled the scene, before the impeachment got reality, so one with a bipartisan supports. The real litigation involving Trump is yet to come. What's left of his reputation is going to be dragged through mud so deep that it won't be recognizable when he comes out the other end of it. If he doesn't cark it first.
Yeah, lock him up. Oops, who said that before .....
Actually, a coup d'état through insurrection would qualify for the death penalty. Oops, who was a big advocate of that institution ......
At least, let us hope, Trumpie gets what he deserves: Economically, socially and financially ruined and subsequently the death penalty. That'll learn future populists to be a little more careful. Let's give them man what he deserves, really.

Nobody deserves the death penalty. You’re talking nonsense.
As an aside, could we get up a petition to ask Alexandra auto change Trumpie to Trump simply because we are - well most of us - grown up already.

I’ve regularly cited the classic horseshoe theory - the broad similarities between the worldview of those on the far right and the far left.
