Can't speak for PP, but I take my US Treasury check (social security) to ANZ in Saigon every month. It's called "check collection" as they send the check back to the states and and then deposit it in my account upon notification from the states. Takes about 3-4 weeks and there is a 10USD collection charge and 3USD postage charge. Seems a little slow and expensive, but it's the only game in town, Good luck!jm wrote:Will ANZ (or other) cash/deposit my US tax refund check? It's made out to both my wife and I (and there is of course no joint account in the U.S.)

And as dv8inpp says above, that is what I had to do with some of my checks from the States. Usually took about three to four weeks to hit the account.

Also, don't forget to have her endorse the check by signing the back. Not sure how closely they follow the rules there, but a check made out jointly, but deposited into a single named persons account, must be signed by both. You know, they want to make sure you're not stealing the poor girls money. Good luck.
p.s. I do think everyone is correct about the 30 to 45 days. When the charity I help out with deposits international checks it's always been no problem, but does take that long to clear and be available.

just wait till next time you're in the us and deposit the check. one interesting about depositing a us treasury check with two names on it, if you walk in and deposit it with a teller they require both signatures, but if you deposit it via atm they would accept it with only a lone signature.
the chosen land.

I went to ANZ with no luck. I don't mind the fee. Which ANZ branch did you go to?

Up the workers!
paper checks?
Why not have direct deposit?
I thought that all disability..social security payments were direct deposit or a govt. issued debit card....just like foodstamp programs..
I guess people still receive tax refunds and in this case the $1200 hand out, but, it is so much easier and free to get direct deposit. Of course, you must have a US bank account.
They stopped sending checks to retired people because they were being robbed out of their mailboxes...just like the old food stamp program where people sold food stamps on the black market for currency to buy booze and drugs..
That said, nice to know people got checks and were in on the program.

Being the CF that I am, for those of you who had checks sent to the US Embassy, how did you make that happen?
Did you ask at the Embassy?
Did you tell the IRS that was where you wanted it sent?
