Shipping a moto to australia
I don't know of any one who has, but there may be a problem with registering it because they do not meet Aust Standards.
Quite a few yrs ago I was in West Timor and the price of bikes was about 1/4 of the price in OZ, I inquired with the Road Traffic Authority in Oz about bringing one back, and was advised that many of the bikes in Asia don't comply with Oz standards, mostly it was to do with pollution levels - Carburetor and exhaust systems needed to be changed.
Best of luck.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Indeed, I wonder what would be worth shipping back, because I'm sure that won't be cheap.
I was told there would be cake.
I think I may be onto something, one moto would be expensive to ship but 20 foot container cheap.
Cant divulge anymore.

The shipping won't be bad at all, but the Australian govt fees will be.ken svay wrote:I think I may be onto something, one moto would be expensive to ship but 20 foot container cheap.

Years ago I imported a Enfield motorbike from India and unless you know exactly what you are in for when it arrives in Oz,"DON'T" do it,as it will finish up costing you to get it into Oz and rego etc,as much as what the bike cost!!!!!
"OM Shanti"
If you want to avoid most of the tax charged, dismantle the bikes and import them as second hand parts -
The tax and import duties is greatly reduced by doing this.

Here are a couple of sites that may help you.
Oz govt and a company that helps import and export bikes.

Note to self: Must be nice to morons.
KS - if you are thinking of bringing in Vespa's, it is being done by a bloke who has been buying them in Vietnam and Cambodia, shipping them into Aus, doing them up, and making a fair quid. There was a real demand when oil prices shot through the roof a 4 or so years ago, as the scooter market rose considerably. However, it seems to have quietened down somewhat.
I tried to import a bike about 3 years ago, but the customs specs on emissions was too much of a headache to worry about in the end!

I've only imported a car from Denmark to Australia/NSW but the paperwork involved is more or less the same for a bike if it is a "personal" import. But I did once own a 500 cc Kawasaki V Twin motorbike that had been imported from Canada that was exempt a number of things including permissible exhaust dba levels which were impressively loud, because it was, from memory, pre 1985. It was too heavy and gutsy for me at that stage of life - a bloody rocket!
Unfortunately, you are talking/posting about a shipping container, size unspecified ie. 20 ft or 40 ft., which immediately implies commercial quantities.
Your starting point is here:
https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/vehic ... icles.aspx
But let me also add that AQIS, now known, I think, as MAFF, and part of Australian Border Force gave my little Volvo 440 SE a right going over before it was released and cleared and I could collect it. Anything removeable had been removed and only mostly replaced as far as the interior went. As is to be expected.
And, of course, after the containerized sea voyage the battery was flat. The Danish (Blue) Number Plates had had to be surrendered prior to shipment which meant I had to get special permission and a special sticker from the then DMR Motor Registry at Crows Nest to drive an "unregistered and uninsured" motor vehicle from Port Botany across and through central Sydney to my nearest motor registry for an inspection and registration and taxation etc. Much to my surprise I was not stopped once. Then, I had to take it to an authorised maker's service centre for fixture of the then "Compliance Plate" now known by another name.
Yes, it was paperwork intensive but not unduly so. Yes, it was a lot of running around prior to and immediately upon release by customs but well worth it. Would I do it again? Probably not.
Good luck.
