I asked friends in SR but they were unsure. I like to know more about this. Recently won 1k air travel voucher would like to make it in time or otherwise.Uncle Monty wrote:According to rumour there will be boat races in Battambang and Siem Reap on the Water Festival dates.

I'm going to get extremely drunk, wear a tutu, a foam dome and black face and prance around Siowath Quay for the tourists. If anyone has a any better suggestions of how i should spend an entire week off work please don't hesitate to share.giblet wrote:Great, so anything going on during water festival?

Make some friends from the countryside man. During this festival most Cambodians are usually in their village gather around getting piss and blasting Khmer music onto the street and dance around a temporary set up round table -- at least in the provinces I been to anyway. It is worth the experience.

I drive past the Sihanouk Blvd. mansion twice daily and have never seen any sign of usage since it was rebuilt about a year ago. On the other hand, I often encounter road blockages for HE's convoy as they leave his office on Russian Blvd. and travel down Norodom, which co-incidentally is the route to Takhmao. If he is using the official residence, he is keeping a very, very low profile.

In one of HE's rambling diatribes about 4 years ago, he stated that he no longer slept at the Sihanouk mansion, as he was tired of waking up at 2 or 3 am to the sound of the latest drunken SUV driver crashing into the Independence Monument. Hard to know whether to take him seriously.

Which no doubt explains the 'No Car Honking' sign near the residence. Wish I could get hold of a few of those to put up.
O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven

I have been to Rose Bar and those cows are anything but docile.

I'd veer on the side of caution.Gary Gilmour's Eyes wrote: Hard to know whether to take him seriously.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Any toilet with ten buttons labeled only in Japanese is NOT the place to experiment when you are at work and do not want to walk out with your clothes drenched, and the hotels frequently have only the boring western-style toilets.Prahok wrote:Yet we go to Japan and can't figure out the electronic toilet seats, let alone the amount of barang here who have yet to figure out how a bum gun works. I'm not even going to start with the amount of barang who are too scared to walk up and pat a docile cow.
And who the hell wants to pat a cow--and if it has a calf nearby or is a male (technically not a cow, but the word is often used to mean any kind of cattle) it may be far from docile when you approach it. The fastest I have ever run was when I was cutting across a pasture that was home to a supposedly docile half-ton Brahma bull that took exception to my presence in his yard. He had a very effective way of saying "Get off my lawn!"
