Wrong. Those numbers are way off. In fact, I low-balled as the salaries are considerably higher than I first guestimated. San Jose mercury news publishes a comprehensive, annual database of every public employee's salary in the nine counties of the SF Bay Area. I picked the first samples I could find in the smaller suburban town of Redwood City, which is about 20 minutes south of San Francisco and considered average in living costs and expenses for the region. The lowest paid full-time police officer was Redwood City Police officer with a starting salary TCOE of $170,580. In that small town there are 40 officers, not captains or detectives, but plain beat officers who make over $200,000 per year.Phuket2006 wrote:Pray tell;Walter White wrote:.andyinasia wrote:I honestly, genuinely, really want to hear our new member, 2YEARTOUR's take on this, given that he's boasting about his car, mansion and huge paypacket to represent his government here in Cambodia. One must pay their mercenaries well. Even the cops where I live "earn" $150,000 to $200,000+ per year. They get plenty of vaca time, great benefits and a 90% pension upon retirement. You don't have to be particular bright of hardworking in order to thrive. Government work is where it's at these days.
Jellus is me.
where is that that a cop earns $150-200,00
Chicago median is $53,
New York $58
Boston $55
SF $60
A quick query of the database shows over 8,000 public employees in the San Francisco Metropolitan Area alone, who earn over $200,000 per year. Most of those who stay on will earn a large percentage of that amount in pensions after retirement.

Napa is a small agriculture (vineyards) and tourist town and almost a rural backwater when compared to the metropolitan Bay Area (of which Napa is technically but not really a part). Salary.com is so far off the mark as to be completely worthless. The salaries shown there are probably self-reported. The SJMN database is accurate, fully transparent and lists the employees name along with their compensation packages.Phuket2006 wrote:weird numbers seems very high and i guess my numbers from the site below are really low

We're not just talking police salaries here. The Santa Clara police chief makes $694,000. The Bay Area Water District employee's top 100 salaries average well above $200,000 per year. A Contra Costa County Water District warehouse manager earns $223,925. You have literally thousands of public middle managers and clerks earning six figure salaries and retiring with full pensions before age 55.
Apropos to the subject of the original post, you pay your mercenaries well enough and they'll go along with whatever agenda you put in front of them. Personally, I see these obscene salaries and bankrupt cities and counties as part of a larger scheme to break down the municipalities and eventually replace them with private contracting companies like Haliburton, Blackwater, et al. Many of the cities and counties in the SJMN database are currently discussing the sub-contracting out of police, fire and utilities management to private companies who will pay their employees a pittance and skim the profits for the shareholders and especially the bankers. Of course our property taxes will have to increase to the point where ownership is just an obscure concept. The current trajectory points to eventual slavery to an elite investor class. We won't have the ability to fight back because of the omnipresent security apparatus we've erected in order to "protect our freedoms".
That's like, your opinion, man.

As per the hubris of the technocrats, if man-made technical disasters like Fukushima and Gulf Of Mexico continue to occur, the technocratic dream of complete control will be spoiled by one thing.
It's no fun bossing around serfs and slaves who are all vomiting and dying.
Unless that's the plan.

If the cops are only paying that much, better to be a Lifeguard ?Phuket2006 wrote:weird numbers seems very high and i guess my numbers from the site below are really low
One Newport Beach lifeguard recently retired at 51 with an annual pension of $108,000, plus medical benefits
Municipal lifeguards start at around $60,000 a year

been having discussions with my daughter (this will be her first election that she can vote in ) and a few others in the states and what is comes down to is this;
30 years or more ago there were clear cut polices and parties that one voted for in hopes things would get better,
now it comes down to electing those who will cause the least damage

Yup, same in the UK and expect pretty much everywhere in the "free world". Damn that Berlin Wall!
Last year I returned to England partly due to disillusionment with politics in Cambodia, only to find that it was as bad - just in a different way in the UK. If I was living in the West now, I would organise a campaign to vote and deliberately spoil the ballot paper so that "Spoilt ballot paper" would get more votes than any candidate. They they'd make that illegal and imprison people for putting their X in the wrong place.
