The variation in the facts reported by the different news outlets is interesting. One report said they were asleep and the girl confronted the burglars when she woke up to go to the loo. Another report says they confronted them when they arrived from home the bar. One report says it was a long, curved, knife; another report says it was a steak knife.
The killer is identified as a street kid named Tong Chen? Does anyone know him? Is he a known riverfront street kid?
The report that Dave had $1500 on him is interesting. I hope these yaba crazed fucks don't hear about that and think that all bar owners or all Westerners carry that kind of money around at night.

PM me for the details.peaceman wrote:does anyone have any info on funeral arrangements and things like that. those of us who knew David would like to pay our respects

Terrible news. Judging from what others have said I get the impression that he was a remarkable man. My condolences to his family and friends.
My dearest thoughts are with Dave - who I am sure is somewhere grinning that glorious grin and laughing that great laugh. My thoughts are also with his family and all of you in Phnom Penh.
I clearly remember us having one of our first 440 get togethers at the, as I called it, "Minger Junky" -and that was the beginning of some great times for many of us who became friends and supports. The bar had just opened and they had put so much work in. It was a real struggle and they met the challenge... Big time.
I had some great times with Dave and they are cherished. I feel really sad for all of you.
Emily.

I know it would have a massive turnout, and it would be great for everyone to honour him.
Id like to see the Ginger Monkey Street blocked off, a huge turn out and perhaps even some show from the govt for respects to him.

Conflicting media stories? Indeed.
So what really happened? It doesn't quite make sense.
I'm curious as to why both suffered completely different injuries, why would an assailant change tactics between people? One was stabbed in the chest; the other has hand; neck and head injuries. If two of them were in an alley way (as one version has it); it would be two against one; you'd expect some mention of injuries to the assailant inflicted during the victims self defense, think about it, to be stabbed five times and not fight back? It's got to be difficult to attack two people without getting injured yourself even if you are armed. Stabbing someone in the chest can result in hand injuries because ribs are hard. This obviously doesn't account for inaccuracies in the Police story/stories.
Maybe I watch too much CSI.
Tragic event in any case and a sad loss.

Gov,
Thanks for the moving tribute on the front page. It brought me to tears, and whilst crying in an internet cafe in Cambodia is definitely not understand, it was definitely needed.
Dave touched many lives. Looking at his smiling face on the front of this page fills me with an immense sadness that a friends life can be taken away in such a brutal way. His face looks so real, and animated and its hard to believe that we wont see it again. The horrific pictures on yesterdays Khmers papers did the same, and made me realise what he went through to save Jane’s life.
His life has moved on, and truly the sadness is for those who remain and miss him. I hope someone here has the ability to organise something appropriate, where we can all get together and honour his passing. It would be a shame for nothing to happen.
Is there anybody here, or anyone knows of someone who would the best person to organise something like this. It would be great to together, perhaps even at the Ginger? I know a lot of people have feelings of loss and grief over this, even those who hardly knew him... its touched us all. It would be good to have a little something in his honour....
Does anyone else think this is a good idea?
Thoughts are with Jane who is going to need the a world of support to recover from this.
Rest in Peace mate.
Also, thank you to Mobsta who is kindly forwarding the address details of daves family back home.
I encourage everyone who knew Dave to take the time to send them a card or a letter. His parents and his sister are just going to be thinking of Cambodia as "that place that killed our son/my brother".
I think it would be mean the world to them to realise that Dave had a very real life here, that he made a difference in many people's lives, and that his time was not wasted, nor was the last few years of his life. It would be good for them to hear from the people that knew him , so they can begin to appreicate the life of the Dave we knew, and that they are not alone in their grief.
