Depressed - where to go?
Hello everyone,
I have suffered from depression for more than 10 years. It was good/okay/not so bad for some years but for a few weeks I have had that same old feeling again. Where in PP can I go to "talk to someone" and not be confronted with something like "Oh man you cut yourself like the crazy people at ... clinic" or "Oh Andrea come on, why would you be depressed? You can talk to me.." and I know I cannot. Or "Why would you want to die? Come on, what's your problem?" (had to listen to that from family and friends)
And does anyone know about the cost of this kind of consultation?
Thanks!

I'm not sure, but I JUST saw a post today about some clinic that said they stock Zoloft (an antidepressant, right?).
I would do a search on here for "Zoloft" and that would pull up that thread. Give them a ring.
Best of luck to you!

I suggest you stay away from anti-depressant pills. Have seen them "at work" on an old friend making his mood change with the winds.
It doesn't solve the underlying issue, and can make you worse in the long run.
By all means, talk with a person who understands. The environment you live in is often a dampener. Consider a change. If possible, live closer to nature.

depends on the underlying issue. if it's a chemical one, they can right what's gone wrong. seen is change a lot of lives for the better, despite the few cases of it having a negative effect (almost exclusively short term, or because of inconsistent use). that's what the doctors are for... to widdle out it it's A or B. unfortunately in the west to many try to do this by just applying medicine and seeing if it helps.Don-Pierre de Plume wrote:I suggest you stay away from anti-depressant pills. Were you the one that rode a mountainbike through Laos to PP on your own for a couple of weeks?

In all seriousness, go to an isolated beach and shout yourself hoarse. Just bellow it out long and loud. It's called a primal scream. Native American style. It might help you feel a little more connected to the cosmic joke. No promises, but goddamn does it feel good.
See you in Hell

I'm not familiar with any therapists/psychologist/psychotherapist in PP or Cambodia but I do know there's plenty of the anti-depressants here. Just watch out for Prozac, they love to push it here because it's the cheap name brand drug it seems, the others no so much. You're specific drug I'm not sure but they have generics for almost any drug here. One I was on was Lexapro, the have the generic. But as I said if you've never heard about it or know about the side effects avoid Prozac, certain other drug interactions, not sure what other stuff you're on, can cause heart block. And I'm sure you don't want to try to get a pacemaker installed in SEA.
I'm the coolest guy I know.... shit I think I need some new friends!
Indigo have psychologists, counsellors and art therapists, but I'm not sure they offer psychiatry

After consulting an expert, an over the counter possibility maybe "5-HTP". Please google it.
Don't wait though for feelings to change on there own.
edit: most antidepressants are SSRIs (Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors) which work by slowing the serotonin from being re-absorbed by the brain. 5-htp works by making it easier for the brain to naturally produce more serotonin.
5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), also known as oxitriptan (INN), is a naturally occurring amino acid and chemical precursor as well as a metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitters serotonin and melatonin from tryptophan.
5-HTP is sold over the counter in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada as a dietary supplement for use as an antidepressant, appetite suppressant, and sleep aid, and is also marketed in many European countries for the indication of major depression under trade names like Cincofarm, Levothym, Levotonine, Oxyfan, Telesol, Tript-OH, and Triptum.[1][2] Several double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trials have demonstrated the effectiveness of 5-HTP in the treatment of depression,[1] though a lack of high quality studies has been noted.[3] More and larger studies are needed to determine if 5-HTP is truly effective in treating depression.[4]
Note: I learned about this supplement on a smoked "herb" forum. Some ppl reported that a pill (5-HTP@50mg - Entric Coated Caplets) taken 30 minutes before smoking amplified the positive mood effect. I tested it to confirm that report. Then bought some for my son at university (BSc@Biology). He tested it too. You could call that a double blind study. btw/ I used to take SSRIs. Didn't like the side effects.

Thanks so much for all your input so far!
Actually, I had read about Indigo and I am familiar with Google but I just wanted to have your opinions as well
Thanks for the hint ThePeck, I am not going to just buy antidepressants. The last thing I need is a problem with my heart in SEA. Have had two surgeries already.
The time when I used them was while at the same time I went to the university's mental health counselor just talking about problems and my feelings. I actually didn't want to take the antidepressants in the beginning because I was afraid of becoming addicted, but they helped and I stopped.
The second time I went to see a psychotherapist it was as OrangeDragon said: I had an appointment, for which I had to wait many weeks. When I finally went there, she said she had no time for new patients (why the f*** did she give me an appointment in the first place???) and prescribed me Cipralex again. That sucked
But at the moment, it is actually more about talking to someone that understands my feelings, or if he/she doesn't understand is at least a bit sensible (don't know if that's the correct word).
Visser, who do you mean with the mountainbike? It was not me, no. I wish!
Iridesce, thank you. That might help for the moment but it does not solve the underlying problem.
Again, thank you! If you have more input, I am happy to hear it!
