Hi,
Is anyone aware of any cheap gyms in Phnom Penh?
I'm just after somewhere with free weights and the standard type of equipment.
I do not need a pool, air conditioning, sauna etc.....
Thanks

One on Norodom one block north from the Paragon/Pencil traffic lights. There is a very french chateaux type building on the corner, the gym is next to it. It used to be super cheap, but now the price has gone up to the dizzy heights of $1 per visit for us barangatangs. Equipment is good.

This question gets asked every month... Do a search or look in the "essentials" section.
Thanks for the responses.
I went to the Vantanac gym today, 1000 reil for a workout! plus 300 riel to park your bike. It's a bargain, it is a bit small but for that price I'm not complaining.
The gym on Norodom (cnr 184 st) behind the Royal Palace is gone, they've taken out all the equipment, only the building is left!

I did have a look in the "essentials" section prior to asking this question, it only had overpriced western gyms, as I mentioned In my first post that is not what I'm after. I just need the basics.Bitteeinbit wrote:This question gets asked every month... Do a search or look in the "essentials" section.

nah you were in the wrong place then. not near the palace. one block over from the 24hr minimart on street 51 south of walkabou'.
I can recommend the Muscle Fitness Gym: basic, cheap, good machines, mixed KhmerBarang clientele, slightly airconditionned. I like the coupons: 20usd for 10 tickets.

This place ripped me off I turned up for a class paid $15 and made use of the swimming pool and gym whilst waiting for the class to begin, and was then told it had been cancelled since the day before. I could have just used the VIP Sports Club across town exactly the same facilities and only $3!
The staff lied about a note being put up to advise customers of the cancellation, so I challenged the manager Alan Ainsworth to check the CCTV footage as I knew this wasn't the case, he refused and would not refund me. He then became rude and pretty much threw me out of the place. Disgusting behaviour.
I also spoke to Alex Vessella the French owner who wouldn't do anything about my complaint either and wouldn't show me the CCTV footage.
Alan Ainsworth is now advising me to take legal action and that I cannot have the $15 I paid back as I was previously told this would go against my first months membership if I joined, and as that is clearly no longer an option this is also another way they have just grabbed my money.
Complete rip-off, avoid this gym, from what I've heard classes are cancelled all the time. There were notes up when I was there stating that Kickboxing and karate were indefinitely cancelled and two customers who heard my arguments with the staff stated classes were always being cancelled with no notice. They were angry but stuck in their contracts.
AVOID!

It's called "The Place" for the record.
That sucks.
It does seem that the classes can be irregular for this reason or that...
I can't wait until they actually get some competition nearby.
