The Bayon Strikes Back
Oh snap!
I actually like that magazine! Picking it up around town is on my to-do list on the first of every month.
My only complaint about it is that it has more grammatical errors than a typical thread on K440. Seriously. I can only assume Sophavy proofreads it for them.
That said, GM's article was hilarious! Even they had to have seen some comedy in it. Hell, it was a free FrontPage advertisement for them. I doubt anyone read it and thought, "they copy articles? I'll never read that again..."
Anywho, can't we all be friends? Best friends, preferably.

Those who begin coercive elimination of dissent soon find themselves exterminating dissenters. Compulsory unification of opinion achieves only the unanimity of the graveyard.

The points he makes about stealing content are ridiculous, because he's not just stealing content, he is actually profiting off of stolen content (which is different than someone who is downloading a movie to watch) and his arguments about his writing are just depressing, but what he's said about this forum is pretty much on the money.andyinasia wrote:I don't think any of his comments about this forum are off the mark. It is gradually becoming dominated by posters who are shifting from harmless banter to vicious attacks. I personally post in far fewer thread than I used to, leaving the knuckle-draggers to take over. I think it would be wise for the management team to take the criticism on the chin and act to clean up the site.

I've been on here for a while and I can honestly say that the amount personal attacks seem to be dropping.
Isn't that what the 'report this post' is for?
If you reported it and mods did nothing, then OK, but did you do it?
I agree 100% with KL and others that it's way more civilised than years back.
Why are people listening to some idiot from the Bacon Nosepick anyway?
And isn't the map of Cambodia on his homepage copied without citation from www.cia.gov?

Now that wasn't uncouth at least was it?

I think he is just confusing K440 with his retirement fund. My guess is he has contributed about the same to both.FreeSocrates! wrote: Okay, I'm a total noob but why does he refer to it as 401k?
I'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious.
I'm remain an avid reader of blogs / sites that started 10-15 yrs or so ago.
I even read some of the newer ones as well. ( just to attempt to get some balance in my opinion )
I find no offense at all in what BP posted and find it odd that the OP would want to run down the street naked shouting that the BP dissed k440.
In fact I believe the OP to be more of an attention getter that the BP in this instance.
We are one of several internet forums that service SE Asia, in fact we specialise on Cambodia.
We attract our own set of loonies, mongers and just normal people in transit, perhaps we can be seen as being a bit snobbish and secular at times. But this is mostly because we are quick to reject those that don't fit and are asking the wrong questions.
So lets enjoy life, our opinions, other's opinions - but never be afraid of challenging a post / opinion that just does not set right with you.
But before going for the throat - it's always worthwhile taking a moment or to to make sure you've interpreted the statement correctly.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

I do feel that there's an element of sour grapes to Stan's Bayon piece. As some are aware, Stan used to write for K440 in the noughties and approached us again prior to our 2011 relaunch, but a decision was taken not to re-engage his services, because, as a colleague said at the time, "his articles are turgid and nobody reads them".
I also know for a fact that his leaden sexpat memoir has sold precisely one, (yes ONE) copy at its main Phnom Penh stockist and rather amusingly that copy was bought by a white woman as a joke gift to put in a 'secret santa' present along with a packet of dog deworming pills.

LoL, I thought it might have been his courteous way of not directly naming this forum.Lucky Strike wrote:I think he is just confusing K440 with his retirement fund. My guess is he has contributed about the same to both.FreeSocrates! wrote: Okay, I'm a total noob but why does he refer to it as 401k?
