If he shows up at my house I will set the dogs on him as you have to assume anyone taking pictures of your house and family is up to no good.
After they've spat him out and the misunderstanding becomes apparent we could all sit down and have a chat about the dangers of profiling.
Of course he will accept course of action because he understands that occasionally when I set my dogs on someone they are a real bad guy and therefore it's for the greater good.

I'm more than happy bomb squads searches my luggages at the airport, and motodops follows me if I'm walking at night with my 6 years old girl in the 100-104 area.

Err, no. They do it to catch paedophiles and protect children. When I say ''nobody's been hurt" what I mean is this - nobody's been hurt. I'm probably in the background of 10 tourist snaps every time I go to the riverside. I'm not going to cry myself to sleep. Is it better when an organisation catches paedos like that German guy the other day who was fiddling with kids on the riverside or should everyone just turn a blind eye and consider those trying to prevent paedophilia as 'animals'?Pain wrote:With all due respect but are you totally fucking nuts ?? What do you mean with “nobody’s been hurt” ?????? These rogue animals are allowed to roam the streets. Nobody does anything against them. YES, they Do hurt/harm people. They do it all the time. They get paid to hurt/harm people and that what the OP has described is just the tip of the iceberg.BURLESQUE@SDHHOTEL wrote:It's not nice to be profiled like that, but nobody's been hurt.

Now that's it's been revealed that Somaly Mam has been coaching children to give false statements in order to increase fundi.., erm I mean "the greater good", I wonder if anyone will be looking into any of the cases of those who were convicted on little else than the statements of children in her care?

I heard about this guy visiting a pagoda bit out of town, where barangs seldom frequent, some dude quickly pulled out a scruffy curly APLE shirt from under the moto seat and started following him around, and this guy was suddenly surrounded by a bunch of very outgoing kids. Creepy stuff.
That seems reasonable to me.starkmonster wrote:If he shows up at my house I will set the dogs on him as you have to assume anyone taking pictures of your house and family is up to no good.
In fact, if a skinny barang creep is stalking and photographing a six year old child along the riverside at night, finding out where she lives etc. I wouldn't be too unhappy to see him get tabloid 'justice', branded a 'pedo' and lynched by a suitably outraged macho mob.
No one has been hurt?????
This poor guy has to lay awake at night wondering if someone is preparing to kidnap his kid? I would call that being hurt.

I'd also be approaching this from the angle of being scoped out by a gang.
Change / beef-up your security.
Change your routines - don't develop new routines.
Tell your kid's school.
Make sure your home's security is up to snuff - check windows and doors.
Get a trusted relative/friend to come stay at your place for a while.
Don't walk out late - get a car/use a taxi.

Read the posts! It was 5.20 when we went for a walk - that is what evening means. That is broad daylight not night. We walked along the waterfront and down St 100 where I know most people and they know my wife and myself and our children, we went there in particular to get a tuk tuk because I know the drivers there and always prefer a driver I know. That is elementary safety. There are no bars or shady places in St 100 it is simply a normal Phnom Penh street, where my wife and children often go for breakfast or coffee.JB 117 wrote:I'm more than happy...motodops follows me if I'm walking at night with my 6 years old girl in the 100-104 area.Spad wrote: ...- my wife and I are seriously worried about this invasion of privacy, and my wife is very angry at the implications. I am glad you are confident about noone posting my photo on in the Post - what gives you this confidence? I did turn up on a BBC program about the sex trade, sitting outside a bar drinking with my wife, as an example of dirty old men chasing bar girls in Phnom Penh. Filmed without my knowledge, permission or consent.
Besides what I said was that I am worried that the photos go into a catalogue of 'suspect paedophiles' and get shared among organisations of that sort. Once that happens who knows what may happen or where or when.
I was not 'in the background' of tourist snaps and couldn't care less about that. This was a man following me and photographing me particularly, and following me to my home and then questioning my guard.
There is nothing more Australian than spending time in somebody else's country
THanks for the advice - most of those I am following but will certainly tell the school as the kids walk to and from [ just one place between our house and school and the guards in all three places know and watch] and alert the guards. This is Cambodia - our house is always full of relatives. And when either of us go out at night we use our cars or use known motodops always.Chuangt2u wrote:I'd also be approaching this from the angle of being scoped out by a gang.

it's sort of a double edged knife though isn't it? i mean, if someone ELSE was walking with your 6 year old... say picked them up somehow... wouldn't you WANT their picture taken and someone looking into it?
there's no real clear indicator that it's in fact YOUR kid... and kidnappings do happen here...
i get what violet is saying about using resources more efficiently... but, how? is there anything more efficient that a bunch of khmer volunteers keeping their eyes open and doing a little "looking into" of something that seems fishy?

Those who begin coercive elimination of dissent soon find themselves exterminating dissenters. Compulsory unification of opinion achieves only the unanimity of the graveyard.

Get your wife to offer the motodop $50 to find and correctly identify the skinny Barang and the khmers that were following you. If they did it once there they will do it again in the same area with others. Maybe even walk with you daughter again with someone following you from afar watching.
It is the Barang you really want to identify. Once you have his identity and know where he lives and works you can take it from there.

Note to self: Must be nice to morons.
Personally wondering how much this is regionally related, I mean going to Thailand, Vietnam or Japan for that sake, is it as common to hear these stories? It feels like many people here have heard about the possible income from getting involved with this sort of criminal activity. I could understand that some sickos would also choose this place for that reason, but the rumors about this shit seem to travel a lot faster than the reality they are trying to support. Nothing's worse than hearing about a creepy nonce, apart from the ones being overly suspicious about it themselves and talking about it all the time. What does that really say about anyone involved from a purely physiological aspect. I am only bringing this up due to problems of being stereotyped myself back home from living here. I guess not working for an NGO or embassy, you would be a horny sex tourist with a taste for younger girls by many.
