Hi guys,
My old box is filthy(actress to bishop)
I simply can't be bothered to strip it and blow gently on it, whilst using tissue to gather the mess( actress again)
Just wondered if there is a small outfit that would buff my box up proper and not end up shoving my ram into the wrong port( OH! FFS!, you get it)
Just want it to have a right good cleaning, in and out. I live on a seemingly permanent building site and the dust is everywhere.
Could I give some shop a fiver to give it a good going over or do you strongly advise against it?
Ta!
I am in Boeung Tumpun, just in case you know of a little shop down this end, but not bothered about doing K.Krom or anywhere. Amazingly would rather drive around the Penh than do this myself.
Thanks again!
Desktop cleaning? Lazy, but can I, where?
You're being too cautious. Buy a can of compressed air or two from PTC, take the case outside and spray away. No need to disassemble everything, no need for tissues and it takes all of 5 minutes. Just make sure you stick a pencil or similar into the fans when you're cleaning near them otherwise you could damage the motors.

Ok,
Having introduced me to this phenomenon, I might just do it myself. Compressed air in a can you say? Had pictured me with a massive compressor chasing my computer around the yard.
Thanks mate, PTC, it most definitely is then.

No bother.
To minimise your interactions with the bloody useless staff there, compressed air cans are at the back left of the 'ground' floor in the Monivong branch. End of the stand where all the cables are kept. You might also be able to find them at a store closer to you if you can be arsed having a look, I just use PTC because I can walk in and grab them easily, otherwise I hate the place.
Probably not necessary, but just to make sure there's definitely no condensation left over don't plug it in for around 5 minutes after you're done.

Why you should have blanking plates covering all your unused expansion slots.
It's a public google+ image so if you can't see it tell me.
Shows up just fine.
I always keep mine in because I'm anal like that, but I've never been sure how much difference it actually makes. If you have positive pressure airflow in your case, which most people should (even if they realistically don't), you get far more in from the fans than the expansion slots, although if you have open slots below the GPU fan you'll possibly get some gunk vacuumed in, which mostly tends to clog the GPU heatsink.
Biggest problem here's the fact the country's a dustbowl in dry season and that shit gets everywhere. I also make things worse by being a smoker. It's one of the small mercies of having to flush and clean my cooling loop & rads every year, I actually make sure I get rid of the dust. I was always too much of a lazy prick to do that on air cooling, I'd leave it until the chips were practically melting.

You probably already know this but while your giving the box a cleanout its worth giving your fans a lube. Mainly to prevent seizing but it does (often)improve fan performance and reduce noise. Article here http://www.overclockers.com/em-spinning ... e-pc-fans/
When cleaning, take care to not overspin the fans using the airflow. Quite tempting. It'll ruin the bearings and shorten the fans life significantly.
