Just re reading and taking incredulous offense,
Where can someone stay that has everything he might need on the doorstep, this place is all over the show and staying in O'Russei means that you don't ever pay more than a dollar to anywhere in the city.
Riverside $1
Wat Phnom(don't know why you'd go) $1
Tuol Sleng $1
Psar Depo (SHITE) $1
Martini hole $1
Russian(MKT) highway robbery centre $1
O'Russei has a very good market for clothing, dried goods, lekky goods, food stalls at night, excellent fresh ground coffee shop and this bit is maybe where I lack finesse, but I don't want to live in the place where I pick up fucks, get drunk with fucks, or let fucks know where I live because they are fucks.
We, of course, may differ on this last point at least.
Remember, this is bearing getting, I arse hume the guy won't immediately have a vehicle, which negates almost everything I've said, as previous posters have pointed out, the city ain't a big place.
Incredulity abated!

1) The riverside between streets 104 and about 178.EdinWigan wrote:where is the main , nice expat area (name) 1 to 2 km doesn't seem too far, but then again it is shake out time before i go trotting off exploring
2) BKK (Boueng Kang Kong) districts 1 and 2 - basically the area south of Sihanouk Blvd, west of Norodom, north of St. 360, and west of Monivong Blvd.
The area around Orressei Market is about equidistant from both--a rather long walk, or a short ride on a moto. It is pretty much cheap guesthouse central, and the market itself--and the area around it--is a good source of supplies and cheap local food.

I get your points Mezmo, but I still think O'Russie is just too busy for my liking. I've gradually moved away from the center of town over the years. Where I live now (Boeung Tumpun) is a long and rather expensive ride from the city-center. It's convenient enough for getting to work though, at least in the mornings. What I really like about it though is that there are close to zero foreigners living nearby (yeah, I'm a snob, whatever), it has a friendly neighborhood atmosphere, and it's deadly quiet after about 9 pm. No bars or foreign food within at least a KM, unless you count the shit restaurants at Sovanna.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
True dat! (currently watching "The Wire" am now afro liverpool) I live in BT too, best place around. Nice locals, can walk around anytime without pestering freaks( I mean them pestering me), still got to get some of the mo fo's to slow down a touch down the lanes but can't have it all. As close to peaceful as it gets IMHO.Lucky Lucan wrote:I get your points Mezmo, but I still think O'Russie is just too busy for my liking. I've got a tent on the water, I pooh in a lucky bag(maybe bag doesn't feel so lucky) Jesus! I cannot grow up.
BTW, was it you or mates that put the speed bumps down, nice move anyway. If so, what they set you back?

I am initial looking for central , as it is just a few days of shake out, so i can get a feel for the place and then move somewhere better. So all this is great advice, thanks
Nothing but an opinionated tourist. The Pope spends more time in countries than I do ! It is also not my place to comment on a gentleman's dress. A real 23 minute wonder, that obviously knows little about ovens and cooking in Cambodia.

Depending on what you think cheap is, I've stayed at the queen wood hotel twice since it opened found it to be very good
Www.queenwoodhotel.com
About $30 - $40 per night.
About $1 - $5 depending on negotiation to riverside.

I have seen some guest houses
Okay Guest House $8.69
Curcuit Hotel Nana $ 14
Lucky Star $ 12.39
Number 9 $14
all plus 20% for this and that . Very basic, simple room and i guess the price will be higher in high season
Thoughts?

And? What would be said, if that was to happen?violet wrote:and what are the chances that two of the only few foreigners in the area get chatting over a thread on K440?mezmo wrote:True dat!
