Stock Trading in Cambodia
I was wondering if there are any reputable financial companies for trading US equities (or other major markets) in Cambodia. If so, what is required to set up an account?
thanks.Cambodian American wrote:I was wondering if there are any reputable financial companies for trading US equities (or other major markets) in Cambodia. If so, what is required to set up an account?

Do it online - that's what I do. I know US citizens aren't allowed to have spread bets on markets, but you might be able to trade in CFDs, which are a kind of spread bet.
Don't grow up - it's a trick!

I don't understand why we get questions like that on a regular basis. Just use your normal broker. Or is that not allowed for Americans? Will they IP block you if you're logging in while n a foreign country? If you already have a trading platform setup, then just keep using it. They'll still send you tax forms to fill out, why would they care where you trade from? Keep in mind: I tried daytrading for a very short time here. Wasn't worth it IMO. If you want to do some swing-trading or more long-term stuff then it's fine, but intra-day is pretty rough for no reason given the timezone difference (if you want to trade US exchanges).

Agree with you there, I trade the ASX from here and find the hours only suit swing and long trading.LexusSchmexus wrote: If you want to do some swing-trading or more long-term stuff then it's fine, but intra-day is pretty rough for no reason given the timezone difference (if you want to trade US exchanges).
Was wondering if anyone trades the Asian markets, and if so, what kind of trading, and which broker are you using?

Seriously, if you have a US account do it from there, otherwise look at some off shore options, I use an HSBC account for that stuff personally
I would agree with the suggestions to use a US account if you already have one. I'm able to use my UK online trading accounts here in Phnom Penh to trade on various exchanges with no issues. However if you don't already have a US trading account, I think that you might have to get this sorted out in the US - money laundering requirements, identity checks and so on come to mind. I opened my trading accounts whilst I was still in UK and I'm pretty sure that applications wouldn't be accepted from here in Cambodia to open UK trading accounts. I'd imagine that the US would be the same.
Duck trading in Cambodia would be easier, especially if you establish some sort of farming property beforehand, it doesn't even have to be that far from the city, and there is a great side income from the eggs which sell for more than chicken eggs.
Hmmm. Thoughts about the possibilities of arbitrage between supply side and demand side come to mind...teamone wrote:Duck trading in Cambodia would be easier, especially if you establish some sort of farming property beforehand, it doesn't even have to be that far from the city, and there is a great side income from the eggs which sell for more than chicken eggs.

I've thought of trading the ASX or Hong Kong/Japanese markets, but given that I don't know them well, it would imply a big learning curve. So given what's at stake, I'm a bit reluctant to embark on that journey. If I had a lot of time to invest, it would definitely be interesting to read up on foreign markets and get back into the game. Given the language barriers, the ASX would probably be the easiest to transition to, although there's money to be made anywhere. Especially in day-trading. As previously mentioned, the European markets are also a good option. Goes without saying that there's also a lot of money to be lost.
But definitely get this sorted in the US. Opening an account from abroad would be a bit tricky...
