The shisha place around the corner from my house has been shut down, to the general approval of the local residents. They have long grumbled that the place is a drug den frequented by trouble makers.
(This auto-correct is fairly annoying. If I wanted to write SISHA I wouldn't have written shisha.)

And why weren't we told of these awesome places before now?LTO wrote:

I always hear of the cool places AFTER they're shut down. That's one of the main reasons I don't read the papers or watch the news much these days.

I knew of it only because I live nearby. Never saw a westerner go into the place. Perhaps if you were in on the freshy boy grapevine...General-Z wrote:And why weren't we told of these awesome places before now?LTO wrote:They have long grumbled that the place is a drug den frequented by trouble makers.

the reasons
- drugs
- nuisance to the neighbours
...certainly dont mean its a general import restriction or something similar...
so you probably can import your ecig/shisha pipe and tobacco and even bring it to your fav bar if you want...
but "drugs/disturbance to pull" as the reasoning for closing them down is a blatant joke...
this cant be true and there MUST be more behind - some tobacco tycoon - who wants to intervene early ?
as someone already said, these metal shops next to guesthouses and in the middle of residential areas or the arseholes with their food carts that drum the whole neighbourhood out of bed between 11pm and 1:30 am just to sell a fucking $1 sandwhich go entirely unnoticed by the police, even though there is the rule "no disturbance after 10pm"
closing shisha, banning ecigs is certainly a political thing and someone might have bribed quite a bit... jmho...

may be the gambling machin shop will be next. the fish game shops grow all time. may be they will be closed next time by the righteous govenment of hun seng. when fun grows in land of the khmer it must next be stopped
Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still.
Quite a few places were closed down last night. I was at the Middle Eastern place on 51 and the police came by and the staff took the shisha pipes away. I had already ordered one and it was delivered and I had it no problem.
The manageress let them go, then called her local friendly copper who hung around for a while, and when the bootboys came back again an hour or so later, he dealt with them and the place was allowed to remain open.
Storm in teacup: the attention will die down in a few days and normal service will be resumed.
I'm hearing that it is driven by a few Ministers' wives who have noticed their kids spending time in some of the khmer places after school. Load of fuss over nothing in my view.

Nothing fun in sitting in a danky room, eyes fixed on a screen, wasting money withering away.jimmychina wrote:may be the gambling machin shop will be next. the fish game shops grow all time. may be they will be closed next time by the righteous govenment of hun seng. when fun grows in land of the khmer it must next be stopped
But that's just my view on it. I had fishing joy on my phone. Nothing special.

They should definitely close those down, only insane meth-heads play that weird game. I don't even understand what they're doing, it just looks like they're banging on a button like nuts with a bunch of fish swimming around. WTF is it about?jimmychina wrote:the fish game shops grow all time.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
^I got stuck on one of those in a sweaty mall in Malaysia once.

Very common in Malaysia because of the large middle east / muslim influence.
There was a crackdown on shisha places in Vietnam last year, but it's still possible to find places that have a deal with the police.
Thailand - very common. Best place is Soi Arab in Sukhumvit.
Philippines. Easy to find in middle eastern restaurants in the big cities.
Singapore - again there was a crackdown late last year, but they are everywhere in Arab lane and it's environments and there are one or two places with licences on Boat Quay and similar places.
Hong Kong . easy to find
Beijing and Shanghai - ditto.

Had the Sangkat Police in Buffalo Sister at 7.30 this morning trying to close us down as a Shisha Bar??? Mistaken identity, the Shisha place is next door! Had a good laugh then called my landlady who put a rocket up them for being so stupid and harassing her regular rent paying tenant.
They did seem serious. So I suppose the Sangkat will either close them all done or bleed them dry by demanding extra Loi Cafe for running what is now a well known illegal activity. Either way not a business I would want to have invested in.
By the way Potty we are not always empty but you were right when you guessed that the bulk of our business is in the lunch delivery trade and off-site catering. By the way anyone have a relative that wants a delivery driver job? My two full-time delivery drivers are starting to struggle with keeping up with the peak volumes so I need one more.

this is gross... so, this country is (allgedly) run by ministers housewifes or what ?
i would like to know who is really behind that...
* I F * there are drugs found at a place, they can close it down...
but you cant just walk to a place and closing it because they have shishas...
what law is this ?
the "tobacco industry" here is seriously pissed about the trendy alternatives ?
trust me, regular fags are dead already...
