Concern coming from the wives of the elite that the proliferation of khmer shisha places are becoming hangout centers for their kids who are skipping school and smoking and drinking instead.potty wrote:jaap, you are one epic piece of boredom...

Which is why several places will be allowed to reopen once they are properly licensed.

Water pipe ban lights up Jordan's smokers
Enforcing a ban on argileh, or shisha, re-ignites the smoking debate in Amman's cafe culture.

This is not a health issue as discussed in the article. Arab leaders have from time immemorial were frightened by men sitting together. Shisha dens is where different sectors of society can mingle and exchange ideas. This is the danger! and not health! When coffee started becoming popular in the Arab world centuries ago leaders wanted it banned and it was blamed for many "vices" including homosexuality. But, the underlying danger has always been that people will come together and discuss politics.

Men sitting together? What's the world coming to? Next thing men and women will be sitting together and the world will just become a giant open-air orgy of depravity.Milord wrote:Arab leaders have from time immemorial were frightened by men sitting together.

Until then I guess one has to join a new-age Religion or finance a Playboy Jet. I've never heard of a Jet being raided in the air.

It will never happen in Cambodia. Locals don't have s*x, they are too dignified, children are just born.Lucky Lucan wrote:Men sitting together? What's the world coming to? One of the funniest (unintentional) parts of 'Ted 2' is when Ted is chowing down on a 12-inch ceramic cock bong, the KH subtitle flashed up in capitals 'smoking shisha is illegal and bad for health'. Oh Cambodia

It's good to know that other countries have a much more enlightened view of this sort of thing. We were in KL over the weekend and stumbled across a fantastic little malaysian restaurant and shisha place with plastic tables and chairs spilling over onto the street, all fall of young people talking and smoking. Amongst them were a ten year old boy and his 13 year old brother. We noticed they seemed a bit young, and asked the guy working there about them.
It turns out the youngest was the Crown Prince of Pahang, one of the Malaysian states. He lives in a luxury apartment close by and comes to smoke with his bodyguards every night. He was there all three nights we were there, at one stage helping the staff serve us.
