Posh kiwis my foot. Having a double barrelled name don't make you posh. Those pokey little dives are creepy. Populated by the same hipster wannabes all of them. Surprised they haven't converted a toilet into a bar yet. Some their bars aint much bigger.
La Patate - wouldn't recommend. Last ate there about 4 years ago. Lunch. The fries were obviously warmed up from the night before and the chicken likewise. I told the manager who wasn't the big tubby guy. Was told I'd get a free coffee on next visit when all i wanted was a lunch that wouldnt make me chuck. Never did go back for the coffee.

Well it must be getting cold after all this time.Never did go back for the coffee.
This said I agree with your assessment. It's a place I would go to if I wanted to get stuffed with very average food consisting mostly of bread and fries. It's not a place I'd chose if I wanted to eat well.
Otoh it's pleasant enough to hang out outside for a drink late at night. One usually runs
into some interesting characters
great late night food to soak up the alcohol (nothing to do with eating well, i agree)

Yep. I don't think they've ever pretended to offer haute cuisine. Just large portions of food for a good price. If I get the medium fries my stomach feels weird and I can feel the grease trying to escape through my skin's pores. The bazooka burgers are pretty tasteless but filling... Still, this thread makes me want to go have some fries!
I've only been once and was underwhelmed. I suspect the owner's absence is having an impact on quality control because some of the people with me said that their favoured dish was a pale imitation of it's former self.
I hope the owner makes a speedy recovery.

Mmm chicken pie. The only item on the menu I like apart from the Sangria. However both were below their usual standard as Scobienz said

Actually quite the opposite. I'm a regular there and get a late night takeaway on average 2-3 times a week.scobienz wrote:I've only been once and was underwhelmed. Since the owner left the fill in manager tweaked a couple of the dishes which has made a huge difference in taste to a couple of my regular dishes.
In saying all that the quality has never been top notch, and it can vary... sometimes the taste is awesome... sometimes average. If you go on an average day you probably won't go back. Sometimes the fries are great.. sometimes greasy.. quality is not always up to par. But you take the good with the bad.
The reason its perfect for me is i always feel like a feed at about 12.30 or 1.30 am before going home. Options are limited at this time. So thats where this place is a perfect fit for me.
But it aint the ritz... if your into the rehabb chic bar style or drinking out of empty jam jars like another poster mentioned then this isnt the place for you.
La Patate serves its purpose and many regulars know what to order and what not to order due to trial and error. its a large menu but i only order 4-5 different items (on different days) religiously... the rest of the menu is rubbish.

Didier has been a character in Pattaya for many years before he came to Phnom Penh. First time I met him was in 1989, he drove a tuk tuk then. I hope he makes it back to PP.

Had the food from this place twice - pretty average and no plans to order again. Maybe I went wrong ordering the sandwiches.

That's not a chicken pie, it's a vol-au-vent. And wow, I didn't know anyone in town made them... How much?rebo wrote:
