F me there are some red necks on here! What a stupid f'ing question in this first place.I can't believe the moronic viewpoints above.
MD interesting , even it the States the police can't control themselves. Shoot to kill? Well they have that in Thailand for yama dealers don't they? So, if the police want to extort money from you all they have to do is threaten you with that. OR if they want to kill you, they just plant yama on you after they shoot you.
If you want to reduce moto snatching, improve the judiciary and the police force. Zero tolerance to corruption. Put the corrupt in prison. It's so easy even the Irish can do it. The Khmer elite ARE bag-snatchers par excellence, so don't go looking for solutions from them. Best get the f out of here before it happens to you.
(Western factory managers should still be able to be shot on site though, oh and anybody caught eating expensive cheese of course.Which is also so obvious it doesn't need mentioning )
However, I appear to be as crazy as you lot. In Nha Trang I found myself riding my Minsk straight at the fuckers. Moto dops and prostitutes doing all the robbing there. And plenty of it. So easy to police if they wanted too, but they mainly attack barang in the area I'm thinking of ( near the sea front) I also saw the look in their eyes Billy B, it was one of absolute terror as they saw me approaching them fast side on. I just got sick of the everyday occurrence and the hatred the Vietnamese can have for 'externals'.

Miguelito wrote:With all of the recent talk of bag snatching victims in PP, I perked up when I was just talking to an old sailor that was stationed in Olongapo City in the Philippines in the early 80s, and he said that the bag/necklace/etc snatchings were getting so bad that the government decided to put a stop to it. They put out a decree that the next 10 people caught committing a snatching would be immediately executed. They were hauled off down in front of the police station and then shot.
They only made it to 8 before that crime stopped.
Sounds familiar.Aside from pickpockets and cellphone-snatching, Manila is relatively safe for almost all tourists...
...Bag-snatching is also common, but, of course, common sense will reduce that threat. Most victims are locals.

Man, Kubrick's eye for detail. This was a backlot at Pinewood in England, but note the Vietnam war-era ba ba (33) beer signage, the Honda Cubs, Au Dai and the aluminium food receptical.Marvin wrote:TRY not to get distracted and hold on to your stuff...tightly.
Anyone know why they added a extra ''ba'' after the war to make it 333?

^No good will come of marrying commoners. They should have learned that after they had to whack the last one.

To reduce the number of crimes by gun carrying motorcyclists who usually operated two to a bike - in the mid-90s the city of Phnom Penh came up with a regulation that male motorcycle passengers ride sidesaddle. It's probably still on the books.air stone wrote:The mayor of Manila proposed a law that would make riding a motorcycle with a passenger illegal in order to limit street crime last year.
Maybe it's like the rules that require passengers to wear helmets here. I've been hearing that was going to be enforced since I moved here.

If I remember correctly, I thought that was to make it more difficult for the pillion passenger to throw grenades, though I guess it could have been for guns too but I don't remember that being mentioned. Also, it required all pillion passengers to ride sidesaddle, though women already were.angkorman wrote:To reduce the number of crimes by gun carrying motorcyclists who usually operated two to a bike - in the mid-90s the city of Phnom Penh came up with a regulation that male motorcycle passengers ride sidesaddle.
