I think I've heard that people with Khmer ancestry and K-visas are hit up for money. I don't know.
I'm also curious about the details of arikevin's visa status and nationality and how and where in the process he was hit up for tips (visa queue, passport stamping booth, customs check, etc.) and how much they were looking for and if he paid.

I've heard that too. It might be something to do with those visas being gratis. The only times I've been hit up for money by immigration was on entering Zambia and Vietnam on gratis visas. I wasn't asked for any money when I got a K-visa for my kid.gavinmac wrote:I think I've heard that people with Khmer ancestry and K-visas are hit up for money. I don't know.

My sister, who has a French passport with a Visa K had been directly asked at the immigration counter (the passport control check at arrival). She said she didn't have money.gavinmac wrote:I think I've heard that people with Khmer ancestry and K-visas are hit up for money. I don't know.
I think I have been asked for some money sometimes by an immigration officer (at passport control on arrival), but since I didn't expect it and wasn't sure I heard right, I asked in Khmer "I'm not sure I heard, can you repeat?" and then he would just say never mind, and wave me away.
I chatted to a very young English guy at PP airport and he asked if I'd been asked by a policeman for a cigarette. I said no why?
Turns out a security guard (the guy waved at us) asked him for a cigarette and as my friend didn't have any he felt obliged and bought him a pack of Marlboro Lights. My friend doesn't even smoke.
So yes. Be careful out there. Especially if stupid young white kids!

7 - D-Type (Transit) e-Visa (WEF 01 September 2015)
• It appears this is only available to be pre-purchased online in the form of an electronic visa, no mention of being available as a VOA (TBC).
• Cost = $15 + $7 electronic processing fee (+ $3 credit card processing fee? TBC)
• Length of stay = 3 Days (72 hours? TBC)
• Extension = TBC
• Apply for online at https://www.evisa.gov.kh/

A lot to read here. My question is this . . .
I want to enter and stay in Cambodia for six-months to do volunteer work at a school. What should I do? Get a tourist visa for thirty days and then extend it while in country? I read that extending a visa for thirty days is easy but what about extending it six months?

Really? If you check my posts on page 2 you will find that all of that information is current and more informative than the movetocambodia blog post imho.roy_baldman wrote:Seems to me this thread is woefully out of date.

Edit to add: If you or anyone has updated information then feel free to post it and hopefully one of the mods/admins can edit my post accordingly to reflect the updated information.

As of now, in order to receive an Ordinary (E Class) VOA upon arriving in Phnom Penh airport, do I really need to show "supporting documents" to obtain the visa and gain entry into Cambodia?
The reason I ask is because I want to come there to more or less live, and search for work for a long period of time. I would basically be like a US citizen retired in PP since I get paid SSD benefits and could stay afloat over there without working, but I want to eventually land a job, freelance with private lessons, or even volunteer long term.
The Cambodian Consulate website says the following, and from the visa guides I have been reading, it doesn't mention supporting documents, so I have concern and would be disappointed to arrive to only be able to stay for 60 days on a Tourist visa.
"Applicants Holding Canadian (Though I'm American, any differences?) Passports submit the Following:
One completed visa application form
One current passport sized photo(2" x 2")
Fee for tourist visa is 35 USD and 40 USD for business visa (Money Order from Canada Poster Service is not accepted. Please use certified's check or cashier's check from any Canadian banks or personal/company check). All payments must be payable to: Embassy of Cambodia
Passport (original) with at least 6+ months validity
A self-addressed prepaid return envelope.
For business visas you will need supporting documentation such as a letterhead from your company and/or invitation from Cambodia" - the Royal Embassy doesn't refer to the visa as "Ordinary", but rather "business" alone on their website and says we need supporting documentation like that..
Do we really need that anymore? It wasn't a requirement in the past, and I'm not sure what my options are if I have to show something like that, because I don't have it.

Hi all,
I am coming on a business visa (Evisa) working in Cambodia. They've told me that my children get free visas, just have to pay a processing fee per kid ($30 or so). How long is the validity for the kids' visas? Same as mine? Do you have to pay the fee each time to extend the child visa?
