Sounds like my bank account is on its way out of the door of 23 Kramuon Sar. Bye bye CPB!scobienz wrote:The Canadians took their stake in ABA nine months ago or more. Cambodia's only international standard bank, and I include the piss poor ANZ in those failing dismally.
Which bank is most useful for a foreigner?

NBC is the sixth largest bank in Canada and ranked 5th strongest bank in the world by Bloomberg. Canada has four banks in the Top 10 Bloomberg world rankings. By the way, Canadian banks did not get caught with that worthless subprime mortgage paper flooding the world in the early 2000s.scobienz wrote:The Canadians took their stake in ABA nine months ago or more. I think I will be moving my money to ABA. They have a million ATMs in PP and beyond. Which is a good thing since they charge 2%, with a minimum charge of $5, to use another bank's ATM.

Must agree with this. However on a personal basis I befriended some of the Sino khmer/Malaysian top management there and since, have been in their offices like in a second home... To the extant of drinking tea in the millions dollars back office counting money girls room (shame they keep them dressed tho).Chuangt2u wrote:I've used CamPu before - and although their systems are good, I found there to be more than enough staff that were tinpot little tossers on personal power trips to make dealing with individuals working there a big problem. I chose to bank elsewhere.
It is still a very reliable bank with strong credentials.
[edit] No way I can find this kind of service in the west anymore.... Anyone that can ain't living in Cambodia anyway...
Which bank has the best ATM exchange rate on the day and where online can we find it ? Thats your question and answer all in one
Not as bad as Citibank Singapore who have blocked my ATM card the last X times I've been to BKK (for 'security reasons'), despite living in the neighbouring country and traveling to BKK every 2 or 3 months.Jacked Camry wrote:In the past, I've recommended Cambodian Public Bank. I would just like to retract that recommendation. Yesterday, they blocked my credit card for an overweight baggage charge while I was desperately trying to get on the plane and forced us to exchange all the money we had and barely make it because they couldn't phone me and confirm that it was me who was doing this, despite their knowledge that I often travel in the region and live in Chiang Mai where we were trying to make this payment.
Fuck them.
I wanted to put some money on fixed deposit with ABA. Despite having a functioning current account, they treated the fixed deposit as a new account with all the implied required documentation to be (re) presented.
Absolutely useless and clueless retards - I deposited the money with PRASAC instead, who were very happy to accept the funds.

Sorry to hear about your problems with ABA, RBD.
Nevertheless, I’d also like to recommend ABA to the OP.
My interaction ABA since opening an account last year
has been smooth and professional,
thus far.

And did you have to present the exact same documents to them anyway?RBD wrote:I wanted to put some money on fixed deposit with ABA. Despite having a functioning current account, they treated the fixed deposit as a new account with all the implied required documentation to be (re) presented.

pew, pew, pew, pew!
Yes, ABA is without a doubt the best and where I refer my clients to. I have 3 accounts with them, original payroll, interest flexideposit, joint account with the missus.
I don't even remember if I had to show anything to open the other 2 after my original payroll but my dealings with their reps have been positive experience.
I have liked my interactions with HongLeong as well. And the free transfers to local banks out of HongLeong is a winner as well as very easy to use online banking system. The rep I deal with is very responsive, a bit too much initially. He was sending me SMS each month to let me know my wages had become available in my account . No more of that but still replies to me promptly. 2 problems: 1) Not the flexideposit options as good as ABA 2) Not enough ATM location to keep as sole bank account
