NB glad you are making some positive progress and I hope it continues but please heed Kachang's sound advice and as hard as it might be, remember to eat with your medication. His, or Her advice is sound and very important, as are other.
You have also raised an important and often over looked issue for the single person. a small medi-pack to compliment the first aid kit is we should all have to hand. The 7 P's apply to us all.

Nothing but an opinionated tourist. The Pope spends more time in countries than I do ! It is also not my place to comment on a gentleman's dress. A real 23 minute wonder, that obviously knows little about ovens and cooking in Cambodia.

Thanks for this. I was going to do 4000mg a day. I will do two 500mg Tylenol three times a day at six hour to intervals. And no booze. Brilliant advice.Kachang wrote:Be careful. The max amount allowed in 24 hrs is only 3000 mg (since 2011 research, used to be 4000 mg ). If you take more there's risks like liver inflammation and liver failure - serioufs stuff. There's also loads of interactions with other medicines. And no booze!nightmare.believer wrote:Some great help here. Thank you. Please keep it coming.
After the stretches that Horace suggested, my back loosened up a lot. I was able to make it to a pharmacy on foot. I have decided on two 500mg Tylenol every four to six hours, continue the stretching, hot showers, and rest. I will try to walk around as well. The poster who posted the picture of the pelvic tilt, it looks like that now, but I am sure it didn't look that way before yesterday.
TO THE MODERATORS:
Point of personal privilege: please restore this thread to the speakeasy. I fear it is buried in a seldom used part of the forum.
Thanks to the other guys with solid advice.

If your lower back is responding to the knees to the chest then you can try this variation: cross one leg across your body and use the other knee to push your crossed leg closer to your body, can also use your arms to get a stronger stretch. This will stretch your glutes and hamstrings. Try lying on a tennis ball and just moving around on it as these will also help to loosen things up. The yoga Cat n Cow poses are also very good, google them. In fact you may want to get a yoga therapist to show you how to keep your back healthy and strong as well as a good physio.
When you sleep tonight sleep on your side with a pillow between your bent knees , less stress on the spine or a pillow under your knees if lying flat. Don't sleep too much, keep getting up and moving around.
Call the number I gave you in the morning.

Yeah, i'm also finding the below stretch for the piriformis muscle (and if you have sciatica) makes my hips, back and legs feel abit looser. Also very easy as you are using your body weight for the stretch. Knee pointing towards opposite shoulder and any angle you feel tight.
I find moving the lower leg outwards increases the stretch in the hip.
A good stretch to do with the pigeon pose as you are in near same position apart from the angle of the front leg.
Cyclists and runners are prone from getting tight in this muscle.

There seems to be some question as to whether it is alright to take Tylenol if you are not drinking that day or whether one should wait five days for all the alcohol to be metabolized. As i have been drinking a lot on my current vacation, maybe I should wait five days after my last drink before taking the Tylenol again(I took two 500mg Tylenol this morning). Thoughts?

Alcohol is a stimulant.
Almost every legal drug cites alcohol as a contra-indication.

Badly enough not to drink and wait three days to take the Tylenol.vladimir wrote:Alcohol is a stimulant.

Alcohol, unless consumed in really big amounts, is metabolized within 24 hours. But your question can not be answered precisely with the info provided.nightmare.believer wrote:There seems to be some question as to whether it is alright to take Tylenol if you are not drinking that day or whether one should wait five days for all the alcohol to be metabolized. You need loads of info: How many drinks did you have? When? What's your body weight?
And most important: Are you a regular heavy drinker?
If in doubt, stop taking the pills to prevent hepatic diseases. These pills are no candies, esp. not if you take 3000 MG a day.If you're a heavy drinker 3000 MG a day might damage your liver beyond repair.

Taking tylenol while drinking alcohol, or a day after drinking, is not going to kill you. Taking tylenol with ice cold Coke is another story entirely.nightmare.believer wrote:Badly enough not to drink and wait three days to take the Tylenol.vladimir wrote:Alcohol is a stimulant.

Tylenol has Acetaminophen in it and it's a no-no with alcohol. Eat a bunch of Ibuprofen instead. Don't move much or stretch until the inflammation goes down. Ice the first couple days, then alternate ice and heat. Treat it just like a sprain. It'll loosen up soon. When you feel better in a week or so, it's time to start stretching your hamstrings and hips. They're the cause of most lower back pain. Ultimately you're going to have to tighten up the gut. Only a strong core made my back pain go away after 30+ years. I find Chiropractors useful at first, especially the Sports Medicine guys. If you have to right back to work, nothing is better than a half hour of STIM (electronic muscle stimulation). It's remarkable. Forget hospitals, they'll just take your money, tell you to lay low, and give you a script for some anti-inflammatories. Don't go to a Chiropractor more than 3 or 4 times after injury either. They'll try to get you in twice a week for the rest of your life. Good luck.

Responses like these make clear why you should visit a GP, OP. If you know what's wrong, you can start the treatment. Nobody can tell you what's wrong with a decent level of certainty staring at a computerscreen instead of investigating your body. You most probably do have an inflammation, and ibuprofen will help you through the day and night without too many side effects, but the question is where does the inflammation come from? Treating the inflammation without solving the cause is not going to help you in the long run.gavinmac wrote:Taking tylenol while drinking alcohol, or a day after drinking, is not going to kill you. No matter what the problem is, the OP has inflammation. Tiny chance it's a herniated disc and everything I told him to do would still help (minus the stretching) 97% chance he's thrown his back out. This is a muscular problem and will sort itself in time. Welcome to middle age ! Here, read this: http://www.webmd.com/back-pain/features ... elling-you
