Burgled at 3 am, in a "secure building", while wide awake
I usually lock up and turn on the alarms, but I neglected to do so, as I was up working all night, on the phone, sending faxes, making coffee, pacing the apartment and had the lights on in the kitchen and living room as well as in our bedroom. Never so much as laid my head down once, as I was quite busy all night. My wife went into the kids room to sleep with them, as I had a VOIP conference call and was creating quite a racket.
Security cameras captured the burglars as they walked straight into our apartment at 3 am, just as I was on the phone in the bedroom. They avoided that room and headed straight into the kids' room, where my wife and two kids were sleeping. From there, they managed to score a Canon EOS 70D that was on my son's dresser, and went through my wife's bag and snatched a wallet with cash and credit cards from the living room.
Bold fuckers. They must have heard me yammering away on the phone the whole time. They missed some real valuables and they must have run out quickly, as I remembered walking from the bedroom at around 3:30 and seeing the front door was slightly ajar. I thought I didn't close it tightly enough and so I bolted it and turned on the alarm. We weren't even aware of the robbery until this evening, as the landlord didn't bother to tell us, even though they were aware the building had been hit and had already watched all of the security footage and saw that we were targeted.
They came in through a side entrance to the building which was protected by a shitty, $5 Chinese lock. They also got into another apartment and stole a couple of phones, as well as a tablet and phone from the cafe on the ground floor.
I get to view the footage tomorrow morning. It won't make any difference, even if they caught the thieves and recovered the property. My wife is deeply disturbed by this violation and I don't blame her. Right now she's saying she's pretty much done with this place. Today we learned that her cousin got pulled off her scooter by some purse snatching filth in Tuol Kork. I was just starting to warm up to the place too.
I'd pay good money for a few hours alone in a locked room, just me, a baseball bat, a pair of pliers, and whoever went into the bedroom where my family was sleeping.

Don't be culturally insensitive. Smiling is the appropriate response here. The advantage of living in a hotel is that they post a guard at the door 24/7 because the Cambodians know the Cambodians.

Government contractor, so it's even worse than 1990. At least they don't have me programming in COBOL.jm wrote:You send faxes? To 1990?

If they get caught, they will tell you how much they are sorry with a big smile!
And please, don't say they are robbers/stealers, they mainly are just SCAMMERS who will take a few dozen thousands of riel, nothing more : http://www.khmer440.com/chat_forum/view ... =1&t=50814

On a side note, sorry to what happened to you.
Why would I care? I'm Khmer
Sorry you and your family has gone through this invasion of your home. What is good is that your family is sound and well, albeit shaken.
Hope you'll overcome that feeling.

It sounds like it's not a very secure building, notwithstanding the crappy lock on a side door.

When I got burgled (3 times in a year) I didn't sleep well for months. Weird feeling if you are asleep upstairs whilst people are going through your shit downstairs. Dreams ranged from being ins said room with a baseball bat to thank God I did not wake up and walk into a knife or gun.Joon wrote:Sorry you and your family has gone through this invasion of your home. Bad experience and on a positive note, no one was hurt .
Happened to me once on the Gold Coast Aus while sleeping in a two storey building, he was very active around the tourist strip till they found a guy at 4am with a broken leg and arm after falling from a balcony with his tool bag. Prick.

Never mind.
Sorry to hear of this, but glad to hear that you and your family are well and no harm came to any of you.
That's bloody ballsy of them, the fact that they could obviously tell someone was home and awake, yet still entered makes me believe that they were definitely carrying weapons and/or high as fuck. I'd suggest you reassess your security measures and habits asap.

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
