Thanks for sharing your experience MaxB. I didn't intend to post a rant, just wanted to share an anecdote. In the future I'll buy smaller quantities of food and eat it swiftly rather than stocking up on food that claims to be edible in a month.

It's not like they can return it to the vendor or supplier and get a refund either. If its a bag of tortellini (which I assume are those bags they're currently selling at 30% off because they're near the expiration date), they're not the ones who put the label on. The company who makes the tortellini slapped an approximate date on the packaging and voila... Sure, it would be nice if they gave you a refund, but they're not responsible for it, especially if it wasn't past the date in the first place.

Sure they are responsible, they're the retailer. If I buy a TV I don't enter into a contract with SONY, I enter into a contract with Comet. Since they don't sell stuff after it passes the sell by date I thought they might honour those dates.LexusSchmexus wrote:Sure, it would be nice if they gave you a refund, but they're not responsible for it, especially if it wasn't past the date in the first place.

[quote="AE86"]That's really how business goes in Cambodia. It's so hard to find anyone that gives a damn about anything that maintaining any level of quality control while trying to be profitable in any business is battle that can not be won easily.
Unfortunately, you just have to take things the way they are and let it go because you're never going to find the "perfect" place.[/quotel
That may be how they see it.
But they need to realise that their customers will go elsewhere if they don't fix it
I have had issues there with prices on shelves not same at cash register.
Boo hoo. .
But its important
Quality control is lacking in this country..
They need to hire an expat.

I bought butter yesterday from Apple mart , it was rancid. First thing in the morning I went and changed it without a hitch . But I would not leave more than 24 hours, let alone weeks,

This is nonsense. How would the seller know if the consumer stored the product properly from the time it left their establishment to the time they noticed any mold? Maybe someone's refrigerator conked out for several hours during a power outage. Maybe someone's fridge thermostat is off and it's not as cold as it should be inside.
..and if you disagree with me, you are one billion times WORSE than HITLER!!!
This and 100+ other variables.Pol Pothead wrote:This is nonsense. Says you, but that obviously is not the case is it.ali baba wrote:Sure they are responsible, they're the retailer.LexusSchmexus wrote:Sure, it would be nice if they gave you a refund, but they're not responsible for it, especially if it wasn't past the date in the first place.

Did you eat the pasta, or throw it away?

I agree with what LS wrote. I just thought people would be interested in my experience since I imagine many board members shop there. As I said in the OP- caveat empor.

I just bought a package of eggs at Lucky Sihanouk. Normally, I'm good about checking expiration dates in Cambodia and grabbing the food from the back which is often the newest. With the eggs, I stupidly picked up the package on the top and focused on looking at whether any were cracked and put them in my cart without checking the date.
I get home, and as I'm putting them in the fridge, I see that the label says "best before August 18"
What the hell? In what other country on earth would arguably the highest end supermarket in whole country deliberately move expired perishable food to the top/front of the display to try to pawn it off on unwary customers? Fucking Scambodia.
