It might have the most branches but it's totally crap in comparison to Thai Huot or Super Duper.gavinmac wrote:..arguably the highest end supermarket in whole country....

You gotta watch super duper too - especially the meat.
Aeon might be the shot, especially now they've put a guard over the meat section so the farmer tourists can't manhandle it.

Well, to be honest I've only been to Lucky and Bayon.upstage wrote:Highest end?
Highest prices, for sure.

Fairly regular at Thai Huot, I noticed that when they have products on sale, they deliberately put the best before date on the promo label to highlight the product is nearing the end of its shelf life. Have seen all sorts of skulduggery at Lucky however, even given up getting Stilton from that horror show on Sihanouk.

I am shocked that Cambodian Retailers are not the same as retailers in the west.ali baba wrote:I tried to return some food to Thai Hout that had mold growing on it 11 days before reaching its use by date but was refused. The only explanation provided was that I bought it too long ago, which is apparently more relevant than the use by date.
Caveat empor.
Shocked that they do not have the same ethics.
Shocked that they do not give the same level or service as in the west.
Shocked that things are different to what you are used to.
It is totally unacceptable.
I suggest you go home to your home country.
Everything will then be fine.......
Note to self: Must be nice to morons.

Everything you buy here is either second quality, rejects, old stock ,etc
here sellers aren't held responsible it is the buyers fault for not checking things carefully enough

Agreed.oxbowlarry wrote:Everything you buy here is either second quality, rejects, old stock ,etc
Just look at the 2500KHR shops.
All the unsold junk from China/Vietnam ends up here. Needless to say the products are full of chemicals or made from materials which could have an effect on health (Melamine) or are just copies/fakes in original re-packaging.
But it's cheap and people love it!
Why would I care? I'm Khmer

Lucky repackage (re-date) their eggs when they reach their use-by. Just as they relabel their meats.gavinmac wrote:I just bought a package of eggs at Lucky Sihanouk. Normally, I'm good about checking expiration dates in Cambodia and grabbing the food from the back which is often the newest. With the eggs, I stupidly picked up the package on the top and focused on looking at whether any were cracked and put them in my cart without checking the date.
I get home, and as I'm putting them in the fridge, I see that the label says "best before August 18"
What the hell? In what other country on earth would arguably the highest end supermarket in whole country deliberately move expired perishable food to the top/front of the display to try to pawn it off on unwary customers? Fucking Scambodia.
And incidentally, they often weigh their meat products 10% heavy as I discovered recently after buying a set of dealer's electronic scales.
They probably studied this guy:MaxB wrote:Lucky repackage (re-date) their eggs when they reach their use-by. Just as they relabel their meats.

Zero regulation. Repackaged as "freedom" and gobbled up by the losers who move here from developed countries where there are actually measures in place to keep their kids from getting killed by eating a hot dog or shot up with HIV at the local doctor. They love it!oxbowlarry wrote:Everything you buy here is either second quality, rejects, old stock ,etc

You know things are high quality when they're even rejected from bastions of quality control like China and Vietnam! In China people spend 400% overage to import baby formula from Australia and in Vietnam people are currently skipping vegetables because of widespread reports that they're poisoned. No such problems here.
If you ever do find a real product, most likely in Aeon, you can expect to pay up to 300% more than you would next door in Thailand.
What's not to love?
If you point out any of these truths you're nothing but a negative nelly and you'll either be scorned here or temporarily banned while the brain damaged and deluded people in control try to concoct a comeback.
