British man Nick Laycock arrested for raping Kampot tourist
There once was this barman from slough,
Who gave a drunk tourist a plough,
At first she cried rape,
but the video tape,
Proved he weren't as perverse as chuck wow

Not often you here the press cheering the court for dropping rape charges against her accuser after being convinced after the fact that she was wrong about being raped, especially here in Cambodia. If we moved this story from Cambodia to the UK, would the Mail still be cheering for charges dropped against an accused rapist by a victim who couldn't remember the details of her encounter with him?
That aside, what happened here? If this guy really didn't assault and rape her, then why were rape charges filed? Is the guesthouse still sticking by the story that all the white people are perfectly innocent, and the only evil people in this story are the Cambodians who forced this poor woman to sign a complaint against her will, then unjustly arrested the guy out of spite and corruption? Or are the Cambodians now the good guys for having arrested an accused rapist (even though the victim later recanted, which rape victims are sometimes known to do), and then the Cambodian court having rightly found the truth and released him? Will the guesthouse be posting about how great the Cambodian cops are anytime soon? And who made the charges of rape anyway? Did the evil Cambodian cops just pull that out of the blue, or did she and her friends make the accusation and then later retract it? If so, what's up with that? What's the logic here? 'Not sure what happened so lets just go ahead and put a guy in prison for 20 years'?
The way I read it her (white, female, non-inebriated) friends jumped to conclusions and took it upon themselves to haul her off to the copshop. I think the cops simply did their jobs - I see no fault on their part.
I came, I argued, I'm out

What makes you think her friends weren't drunk too?
I reject the idea that she thought she had consensual sex all along but her friends talked her into filing a rape claim. That makes no sense.

I'm interested at the concern shown here now the alleged rapist is white, wonder if we'll get more of the victim blaming like when the attacker wasn't white...

The arising question though, where the fuck was her boyfriend while this was happening?
Edit: Actually she is a very lucky woman, all things considered i.e. putting herself in the most vulnerable of circumstances, drunk and alone at night in a rural locale. While sparing a thought for the woman, I can not help but think this could have ended a lot worse.

She was blind drunk. She has to take some responsibility in this. If she was driving a car while drunk and there was an accident, where the driver of the other car was clearly the cause of the accident, she'd still be charged. I'm not saying she should be charged, but I do think this is not a clear cut black and white case of rape. Yes, the guy was predatory and took advantage of her state but I think the fact that she thought it was her boyfriend means she was absolutely bloody blind drunk and she simply has to take some responsibility for what happened.
I'm always amazed how this forum backflips the moment they can stick the boot into a barang, especially victims.GB8 wrote:Of course everybody is presuming Cambodian law is the same as Western law. Is all sex in Cambodia rape if the women is too drunk to give consent? Are males and females equal under the law? If I was the alleged rapist's lawyer I would have him claim to have been drunk and victimized.

I hear that the Arcadia guesthouse has now changed its policy.
Instead of putting a chocolate mint on a guest pillow, it now puts a morning after pill and a note "courtesy of the management"

My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.
I think that question is far more interesting. Certainly beats the sham K440 'journalism' that has taken place here, speculating a guy's reputation knowing virtually zero facts of the matter.Miguelito wrote:What are the chances that Nick has a work permit for working in the hostel? There was no "Journalism" - it was all purely conjecture and supposition with a hint of speculation...Bosco wrote:I think that question is far more interesting. As they say - there is no smoke without fire... and if you chose to bang a girl who is so drunk she can't remember if she said yes then you are neither a scholar nor a gentleman.

The news outlets were very quick to report his arrest, but as far as I can tell none of them have reported yet that he was released.

I've been on the lookout for it but indeed no reports of that...gavinmac wrote:The news outlets were very quick to report his arrest, but as far as I can tell none of them have reported yet that he was released.

Any male who meets a girl and has sex whilst she's not aware of what she's doing through drink is a prick. Just wait until the morning but then you'll probably just go your separate ways anyway!

There is a huge difference between being drunk and "not aware of what she's doing through drink" I hope you understand.YaTingPom wrote:Totally agree.Chuck Wow wrote:

Otherwise, you are suggesting any bar or nightclub pickup is off the cards?
