Since you started this thread... what sent you packing back to Blighty in the first place, what did you expect it to be like when you got back there and what is your plan in Cambodia going forward? You must have left Cambodia for some specific reasons and after such a short time away those same reasons probably still exist, assuming you didn't save up a sufficient boatload of cash during your short time in the UK.Bubble T wrote:Seems like some people here have some issues. A short response to some of the points that have been made:
- I'm well aware of Cambodian traffic accident statistics, hell I've been responsible for my fair share of them over the years.
- I'm in my 30's now, not sure how long people will keep calling me a kid, but whatever floats your boat I guess.
- My reasons for not wanting to be in England have nothing to do with employment, which hasn't been hard to find here. It's simply that it's cold, wet, I don't understand the culture (or want to), and I miss Cambodia which has been my home for almost half of my life.
I only ask because I often have the impulse to drop everything and return full time to SE Asia. I don't necessarily find daily life in the West any more satisfying than you do (although it's quite comfy, if that's your thing) but you won't be in your 30's forever. It takes quite a bit of confidence to plant your flag in Cambodia and overlook the possible negative consequences of that decision. If you are really so confident about your future earning and lifestyle prospects there, and no much concerned with the mentioned negative aspects of life in Cambodia, then God bless ya and YOLO and all that. But a questionable decision at age 30-something might easily spell disaster by age 40-something if you're not careful, and a move back to the West would be even harder then...unless global climate change and CO2 emissions has turned the UK into a dry, sunny, temperate weather zone by then.
..and if you disagree with me, you are one billion times WORSE than HITLER!!!
Money wasn't a motive for leaving or for coming back. I certainly was concerned about the prospect of old age in a country with no safety net (if I even make it that far), but I've reached the conclusion that I'd rather take my chances and enjoy life while it lasts than live to a hundred and be cold and miserable for every day of it.Pol Pothead wrote: You must have left Cambodia for some specific reasons and after such a short time away those same reasons probably still exist, assuming you didn't save up a sufficient boatload of cash during your short time in the UK.....But a questionable decision at age 30-something might easily spell disaster by age 40-something if you're not careful, and a move back to the West would be even harder then...unless global climate change and CO2 emissions has turned the UK into a dry, sunny, temperate weather zone by then.

@batshit;
Thanks but I'm just telling it how I see it, not really asking for advice as I leave in less than 48 hours so a bit late for that kind of talk. I tried the countryside and I tried the city I grew up in, I just don't like it here, it's that simple. Not sure why you'd think someone who left England to live in Cambodia when I was still basically a child is "afraid of new things", I can only assume that you don't know me personally.

I can vouch for it not being too late. I booked and paid for flights to Cambodia 3x. Didn't get on the plane.

Thanks, but contrary to batshit's insinuations, I'm very happy and comfortable with my decision. As I said, I've spent almost half of my life in Cambodia, and it's where I feel most comfortable and happy. I'm glad I gave England another try (albeit a brief one), but mostly it just ended up serving as a reminder of why I left as young as I did. I've met some nice people here and had some nice times, but it isn't where I want to spend my life, Cambodia is, so it makes sense for me to go back. Thanks again though, I do appreciate your concern.violet wrote:I can vouch for it not being too late. I booked and paid for flights to Cambodia 3x. Didn't get on the plane.

I moved out of Cambodia to Thailand last year...hated it. Now I'm back in Central America and I hate it even more. Not sure what it is about Cambodia, but I'm psyched to come back. Hope all the dirt bag losers are gone by the time I arrive. Don't want to see any more photos of working class Khmer's feeding idiots, European suicides or hippie clown pants.
Numbnuts all grown up
Best of luck when coming back to Cambodia, BubbleT.
