I have my reasons for not wanting to go back to India but more than anything I'm just sick and tired of it- had enough of it for a lifetime. I wanted to learn Thai right from when I first got here but they won't give me an ED visa unless I apply from within India. Too bad. Seriously considering studying English part time in Kuala Lumpur now, mainly for visa purposes. I get why most countries don't want Indians, but the problem is that not every Indian is an unwashed peasant looking to work as a waiter or other unskilled labor. This is not just me, there are well over a million people like myself in India who get a bad rap because of the others.
Have to agree on this. I've had a few indian tenants, most of them highly qualified IT professionals, who could give most specialist barang a run for their money.there are well over a million people like myself in India who get a bad rap because of the others
I hope you find a way to settle in PP, that sounds like your best option. .
I feel like a fool now. All those months living in Bali and I thought I was in Malaysia the entire time. I can't be bothered using Google Maps, but is Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia too, or Indo?Lucky Lucan wrote:I'd be very wary of listening to hearsay from someone who has such a poor grip on geography. I heard Bali is good for visas, you only need to leave every 6 months. Malaysia isn't really a Muslim country like you would expect.
OP - where do you live in Thailand? It might help knowing if you like city/beach/country before people recommend anywhere.
I also think the Philippines has a visa where you only need to leave every 2 years, but don't know if it applies to Indians. Think that might be in Malaysia too, but maybe LL can confirm.

Phnom Penh was truly horrible. At least the parts of it from the airport to Sihanoukville. Dirtier and poorer than most of India. The countryside after leaving the city was much nicer.

It is good to be able to watch uncensored porn again without having to use a proxy/VPN. The use of dollars is a good thing as well, as my income is in USD. No more baht-dollar mental conversions. I arrived at about 10PM near the golden lion and as soon as I got out of the taxi I was surrounded by touts who offered me weed, speed, heroin, cocaine, lady, man, hotel... not wanting to be too adventorous on my first day I checked into the most expensive looking hotel that I could see. The Holiday Villa Nattaya. The room was surprisingly good, for $45. The breakfast was shit. Inedible. Rented an old Toyota for the day and am staying at Otres now. Found a decent looking house near Sokha beach for $350/mo. Will move in tomorrow.

The people so far have been super friendly. Random kids said hello to me. The level of spoken English and overall intelligence seems to be a notch above Thailand. Too bad that most people seem to be extremely poor. Also, why is everyone so sad with empty looks on their faces? And dressed so simply, almost shabby. Really seems like a country in collective despair and mourning.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
