Dump? Are you not liking Sihanoukville as much as you liked Phuket?

You've got a real smooth way of talking.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

It's great that the OP is from India and thinks Sihanoukville is a dump.

85% of India is a shithole (15% is not) but here, other than for small stretches along Victory Hill and Otres- everywhere is a dump. The ubiquity of garbage on the side of the roads, dust, creepy moto guys who manifest out of thin air like vultures, and shabby looking poor people makes it an undisputable dump. Hey I am stuck here like the rest of you as well, but I call a spade a spade.gavinmac wrote:It's great that the OP is from India and thinks Sihanoukville is a dump.
Comparing Phuket with here is delusional.
The only silver lining that I see about this place is the overwhelming desire to make enough money to leave. Good motivating factor. Also a great self imposed detox. I only ever leave the house to swim and for breakfast. Speaking of which, still soliciting breakfast recommendations...

If you think it's a dump, why don't you move to India or anywhere else on earth other than Sihanoukville?brownexile wrote: 85% of India is a shithole (15% is not) but here, other than for small stretches along Victory Hill and Otres- everywhere is a dump. Exactly. Why don't you move to Goa, Kerala or the North East? None of those places would be any more expensive than Sihanoukville (maybe Goa but I don't know) and they're all safer and speak better English (note to others - Hindi isn't widely spoken in these areas, assuming this guy speaks Hindi)gavinmac wrote:If you think it's a dump, why don't you move to India or anywhere else on earth other than Sihanoukville?brownexile wrote: 85% of India is a shithole (15% is not) but here, other than for small stretches along Victory Hill and Otres- everywhere is a dump. Been there, done that. If I ever go back to India it would be to the north east. Lived 8 months in Sikkim, had a great time. Clean and civilized. Other than the north-east however, I think that it comes down to the fact that familiarity breeds contempt. In me, and for me in them. As I understand the language (most, anyway) and culture, I can see right thru them and look down upon their shortcomings. I have the luxury of not speaking Khmer here so I am insulated from getting further disillusioned by the people. As for them, well, I feel more equal here than in India. Because of the color of my skin and the fact that I speak Hindi and other Indian languages, I'm always treated as an equal or worse in India while whites are put on a pedestal and always given better service and preferential treatment. This is especially blatant in Goa.Starving Pelican wrote:Exactly. Why don't you move to Goa, Kerala or the North East?
