Cambodian mail
Cambodian mail
just trying to find some recent reports on how it is posting out of the country. quite a few reports of devious behavior at central PO about 5 years ago but cant find any info since. Anyone with maybe an ebay type business that can give a report?
No problem from here to USA. The other way around is quite different. I had mail sent from New Hampshire to Sihanoukville first class the beginning of December. I am still waiting for it. I then had mail sent registered with a signed receiver. That was the 8th of February. It has never arrived. The USA postal tracker says it left San Francisco by plane on Feb 20th. I have a PO box here. Don't trust the mail.
Regular and frequent user of mail services here - both inwards and outwards - through the Wat Phnom post office, where I have a PO box (parcels - small and medium sized/magazines/newspapers/letters etc). No issues so far - I find it works very well.
If you are to be a regular user, you will need to open up your own PO box - they will inform you when packages arrive, which you will then collect around the corner from the main entrance.

I am sure there are countless threads on this, but I have always wondered how the customs works now-a-days on small items.RBD wrote:Regular and frequent user of mail services here - both inwards and outwards - through the Wat Phnom post office, where I have a PO box (parcels - small and medium sized/magazines/newspapers/letters etc). Say I ordered a few small, under 10 kg motorcycle parts from Japan or wherever. Do I pay a custom tax? Do they charge import tax on everything or just electronics and big shipments?
For example, my father wants to mail me his Galaxy S6 from the U.S. to the Wat Phnom office ( non-PO box). It is a used phone, would that for example be charged a customs/import fee?
What about ordering stuff from Amazon? just looking for a quick answer to pigggyback off this thread. Thanks
Anyone who doesn't like Capitalism is a pathetic loser. God bless the USA and no place else.
DM you ask some good questions, but I'm afraid your post is far too technical and advanced for both myself and probably everyone at Cambodia post.

I get about 75% of the shit I order eventually here in SV. It's usually 7-10 days to get to town & 2 months for them to put it or the notification in my box.
Thanks for the info. Also wondering if EMS is the only way of sending tracked mail. It seems expensive compared to registered air from Thailand.

It's more expensive but it's worth it, especially if you're sending important documents. If you're using it to send documents to Cambodia, try to get it sent to an official address like your employer or a friendly business, rather than your personal address.flatjack wrote:Thanks for the info. For letters and very small packages, I use 'regular' registered mail for which you get a tracking number. It's charged by weight starting from about kr 14,000 (ie for about 3 sheets of A4 paper). Has always arrived for me. I once asked where a letter was a few days after posting, just to see if they actually followed it - they were able to tell me exactly where it was at that time via the tracking number.flatjack wrote:Thanks for the info. Re customs - I've never been charged, but then I've never received 10kg of stuff in one go.
I came tru the airport the other night at about 10.30 pm. Women were coming off a flight (from Korea??) with about 3 trolleys each of suitcases and packed boxes - not one of them was stopped by customs.....

I always get all the tracked stuff & I can force them to look for it when it arrives. I just can't get everyone to send it that way. I had Chase send me a credit card & after 6 weeks I figured it wasn't coming & had them send me another. 7 weeks later, they both arrived in my box on the same day ! Right now I'm still waiting on a 5S charger/case that I ordered in early Dec. Ebay says it's been in SV all year, but with no tracking #s - they can't find it at the PO.flatjack wrote:Thanks for the info. Also wondering if EMS is the only way of sending tracked mail. I recently had a laptop sent from Oz by EMS, with tracker. It arrived in 5 days and it was actually sent on 23 December.stevecz wrote:I don't have a problem with EMS sent parcels to Aus. and received goods from China, Hong Kong and Turkey through Ebay they will ring if a phone no. is on the delivery.
Incidentally, EMS would not release to GF until she paid $160 import tax(10% of value)
