the most reliable internet provider in central PP
Hi guys,
I just browsed through some of the older threads and it sounds like Ezecom or Opennet are good options?
I am a gamer, so I need a reliable connection with low latency. The overall speed does not need to be incredibly high. Sth like 3 or 4 mb upwards would probably be enough to also utilize my Netflix subscription without any problems but what is a lot more important is overall downtime and the quality of service. If the latter are ok I am willing to pay a couple of dollars more per month. Having said that Ezenet is so incredibly expensive that I am wondering how bad Opennet can be? I could get a 10/10MB fiber connection with Opennet for 39 Dollars while the 1 MB connection of Ezenet is 40 Dollars O_o Could anyone with an Opennet connection please tell me about the downtimes and their service?
Location of our new apartment will be probably somewhere around st 178 or somewhere in BKK 1-3 (in case the location makes any difference).
What would you recommend?

Opennet should be fine. Please keep us posted once you have it, I'm also curious about the real speed of that 10mb connection.
Latency will suck regardless of your speed. Why? It takes time for packets to travel from Cambodia via shitty routes to your gaming servers regardless of the speed of your connection. Welcome to the other side of the planet. Enjoy your 100-300 ms lag.

Ezecom is probably the most reliable, but as you've mentioned, they're expensive. I've heard good things about Metfone's Fiber To The Home service http://www.metfone.com.kh/en/Services/I ... TH.10.aspx. But with the recent news that the Vietnamese company who owns 49% is going to sell their stake, I'm not very optimistic about their future.
Whomever you decide to go with, you will probably be dissapointed and frustrated, I'm sorry to say! I had better service in California in 1996!

I play Dota2 and have been playing on 200ms from India to the EU servers for the last two years. I doubt that I can still do the EU thing while I am in Cambodia but the ping to their SEA server in Singapur or Malaysia should be a lot better.Alexandra wrote:Latency will suck regardless of your speed. If Metfone might be sold Ezecom is still my best option here I guess? Any objections? From what I read in these forums the only time people were really complaining about them is when under sea cable broke.

I'm on the brink of changing providers but not sure if needed.

Not sure what you are testing against or what your route looks like or even what speed you are paying for and therefore expect. Need more info than you provided violet.
Walking to your neighbour is not the same as walking to Africa. Computers work the same way. You didn't provide from where or to what you connected. It's like I would ask you if taking 20 minutes to walk to my destination is a good result.
How about you download some hardcore pornography and get some real life speed results and compare them to what you are paying for instead of toying around on websites that measure things that don't matter.

With a 4ms latency it's probably a local server she's testing against. The figures are ok if you're expecting to get about 12Mb/sviolet wrote:is this any good?

Opennet only gives the advertised speed within Cambodia (fibre 10Mbps). When tested regionally you will get about 4Mbps, whilst for US and Europe you're lucky if you get 2Mbps.
That's fine for most of the big sites like YouTube, Facebook etc because they have CDN locations in Singapore.
If you are using it for business however and need the advertised speed regardless of where you are connecting to, go with Ezecom.

great. thanks for the advise guys. I will go for opennet 10MB fibre and let you know how it goes.
I'll second that, when I had opennet they would often call up just to see if things were ok. Sometimes they'd come around if they'd gotten an error from their system.starkmonster wrote:P.s never, never, never use Metfone. It's great when it works, but it frequently doesn't and their customer support is the worst I've ever experienced anywhere ever.
Opennet have responsive and even in some cases proactive customer support, way above what you would expect for the price.
Currently looking at a dual wan system to ensure as close to possible 100% connectivity as $120 month can get you.
