Calling the security forces Youn is a brilliant strategy on the part of the opposition to win the military and police to their side. [Sarcasm set to stun]
People power is Bullshit unless the security forces defect. I can't see that happening in Cambodia any time soon.

It would be easier to have empathy with these activists if their base philosophy wasn't based on nationalism and racial hatred.
You're quite right about people power. There is nothing in the Khmer dynamic to suggest a coordinated people power uprising will ever happen. Indolence prevails, and at the end of the day people really don't give a shit providing they have their phone and Aeon loan. It doesn't matter how loud the middle class returnees yap about unfairness and corruption (an interesting dynamic as most of their wealth from their parents benefited from corruptions under previous regimes). The mass population will stay in their hammocks for generations to come. It's part of the national psyche.

Oh come on now, that is just not fair, some of them made their wedge the old fashioned way, with good old Crime in the US (and to a lesser extent Aus)alanclarke72 wrote: ...middle class returnees yap about unfairness and corruption (an interesting dynamic as most of their wealth from their parents benefited from corruptions under previous regimes).

Most of the Khmer I know are lower middle class and their parents were a rung below, farmers . They all seem to be CNRP . Just saying, that's all.

It's just fucking stupid and ignorant. It's like so many people have no way of rationalizing anything besides blaming the Yuon.

The Yuon are scapegoats for an anger they can't focus on elsewhere i reckon.
What should one do when a khmer you are sat with talks about hatred of the Yuon then?
Just say - that's bollocks mate, or fake a smile like you've trodden on a squishy turd, shake yer head at the stupidity of humanity and move on?

I think we already reached peak 'Yuon hate' last year, it seems to have run out of steam now. The youth are really good at being whipped up into a frenzy on Facebook, but they tend to have a short attention span. Yuon hating was so 2015, like Aeon Mall and the Honda MSX, now we've all moved on to Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Go fills a temporary hole created by the lull in Yuon hating. Unfortunately, the CNRP leaders are a bit distracted at the moment hiding in Paris and various buildings around town. Don't worry. It will be back by the end of the year.starkmonster wrote:I think we already reached peak 'Yuon hate' last year, it seems to have run out of steam now. I agree that these protesters shouldn't protest against Vietnamese or whatever nation. As a Cambodian, I don't have problem with Vietnamese residing in Cambodia as long as they have enough documents to allow them to live in Cambodia legally.alanclarke72 wrote:It would be easier to have empathy with these activists if their base philosophy wasn't based on nationalism and racial hatred.

However, what is even worse is to hear a bunch of expats who have so much better life-style living in Cambodia compare to the majority of Cambodians telling Cambodians about nationalism and racial hatred or whatever so-called racism against other nation while they don't seem to realise they are pretty much racists against locals while living in their country. proofs needed? Yes look at how many threads on this forum that have been discussed about Cambodians.

How many threads do you think there should be discussing Cambodians on a Cambodian expat website? None? Are you to be protected?
Racist comments and attitudes are dealt with by deletions and banning. Discussing cultural mores and traits and suggesting they are responsible for the political situation in a country most of us love, live in, contribute to and have formed a deep connection with is not racist.

Someone should make a new CNRP Go game, we could all go out and look for the rain man, Kem Sokha and the crew.scobienz wrote:Pokemon Go fills a temporary hole created by the lull in Yuon hating.
