Right this is a forum based in Cambodia, so there should be some discussions about Cambodia and its people. However, it is an expats based forum, how about having discussions on Cambodia-expats life-style and something positive in Cambodia rather than having a mockery thread about those unfortunate Cambodians who don't or will never realise that their names have been posted and made fun of here by some random foreigner hiding behind the computer screen. Do you think it is fair to do that?alanclarke72 wrote:How many threads do you think there should be discussing Cambodians on a Cambodian expat website? None? Are you to be protected?
Racist comments and attitudes are dealt with by deletions and banning. Discussing cultural mores and traits and suggesting they are responsible for the political situation in a country most of us love, live in, contribute to and have formed a deep connection with is not racist.

Am I allowed to have an opinion if I haven't said anything racist about Cambodians, or is it just foreigners in general that aren't allowed to have opinions about Cambodian politics? Hun Sen seems to feel the same way about foreigners sticking their long noses into Cambodian affairs.Kon Khmer wrote:I agree that these protesters shouldn't protest against Vietnamese or whatever nation. As a Cambodian, I don't have problem with Vietnamese residing in Cambodia as long as they have enough documents to allow them to live in Cambodia legally.alanclarke72 wrote:It would be easier to have empathy with these activists if their base philosophy wasn't based on nationalism and racial hatred.
You're quite right about people power. There is nothing in the Khmer dynamic to suggest a coordinated people power uprising will ever happen. Indolence prevails, and at the end of the day people really don't give a shit providing they have their phone and Aeon loan. It doesn't matter how loud the middle class returnees yap about unfairness and corruption (an interesting dynamic as most of their wealth from their parents benefited from corruptions under previous regimes). The mass population will stay in their hammocks for generations to come. It's part of the national psyche.
However, what is even worse is to hear a bunch of expats who have so much better life-style living in Cambodia compare to the majority of Cambodians telling Cambodians about nationalism and racial hatred or whatever so-called racism against other nation while they don't seem to realise they are pretty much racists against locals while living in their country. proofs needed? Yes look at how many threads on this forum that have been discussed about Cambodians.
Now hold on there, KK. There are hundreds if not thousands of discussions here that are positive about Cambodia.
Which 'unfortunate Cambodians' are being made fun of? If you mean criminals in mug shots, then they are fair game, just as expats who end up in police pictures get mocked too.
I'm also led to believe there are expat newspapers in Cambodia which run similar stories, most usually about politics, crime and such like. If it's good for them, why do you have a problem if we do it here (and on CEO also)?

I guess you pretty much understand about the privacy and in this thread, poster posted picture of people's ID with all the detail and information. Do you think if it is fair to have an innocent's personal information posted on a forum where pretty everyone could access to.
I don't prevent anyone talking about Cambodia political, but I just want to make a point that telling Cambodians not to be racist while they are racist them is just so ridiculous for me.
PS. I don't say everyone here are racist.

Yes, as long as your opinions don't suggest racism against Cambodians, you are welcomed to discuss about Cambodia political. You should challenge with HS about Cambodia's political if you really want to. I guess he might want to hear your takes how to Cambodia a better country.LTO wrote:Am I allowed to have an opinion if I haven't said anything racist about Cambodians, or is it just foreigners in general that aren't allowed to have opinions about Cambodian politics? I hadn't seen that post, but evidently that image of an ID card was all over khmer media and social media because the girl was missing.Kon Khmer wrote:There you go Scobienzscobienz wrote:Now hold on there, KK. There are hundreds if not thousands of discussions here that are positive about Cambodia.

Ok Scobienz, i would love to challenge with you on this thread. Ok that ID card was all over khmer media and it is fine if that was the case, how about those facebook profile captured pictures. Were those people missing as well? Were they criminal?scobienz wrote:I hadn't seen that post, but evidently that image of an ID card was all over khmer media and social media because the girl was missing.Kon Khmer wrote:There you go Scobienzscobienz wrote:Now hold on there, KK. Did anybody on this thread who posted something about Khmer racism say something racist on another thread? A very quick inspection, I don't see the overlap. The person who posted that ID (in so far as that is racist) on the other thread has not commented here.Kon Khmer wrote:There you go Scobienz

I don't know if you have noticed but this place is brutal on foreigners. Have you read any of the dead expat threads? Eviscerating foreigners is a veritable sport here.Kon Khmer wrote:Ok Scobienz, i would love to challenge with you on this thread. It doesn't matter whether they posted on this thread or not, but i just want to make a point that some people only have opinion about other people but not themselves. It is really funny when someone tries to correct other people's mistake while at the same time she or he makes the same mistake.LTO wrote:Did anybody on this thread who posted something about Khmer racism say something racist on another thread? Facebook profiles are all over the Internet. People are having a bit of fun because the names sound funny in English.
I get it Kon Khmer. You don't like 440. But you're going to have to try a bit harder than this to try to prove some kind of institutional racism here. When we see racism we deal with it quickly.

It does matter. If you are not being a racist yourself, you have to address what individuals have done, not simply group all foreigners into one category and blame them as a whole. You said "what is even worse is to hear a bunch of expats who have so much better life-style living in Cambodia compare to the majority of Cambodians telling Cambodians about nationalism and racial hatred or whatever so-called racism against other nation while they don't seem to realise they are pretty much racists against locals while living in their country." Either you are talking about individuals who have commented in this thread and been racist elsewhere, or you are committing the same offense that you want to attribute to others, i.e. stereotyping a category of people, then blaming the individuals within the group for your stereotype of that group.Kon Khmer wrote:It doesn't matter whether they posted on this thread or not, but i just want to make a point that some people only have opinion about other people but not themselves.
