Why not use a dedicated 3G dongle? Metfone has pretty good reception around Cambodia, not sure about other companies like Smart. If you think about 4G, check the service is available within reach of your major working place before buying. In my experience the companies exaggerate the area serviced 'a little bit'. Using your phone as a connector means you always have to carry that USB cable with your laptop to connect your phone, less convenient than a dongle IMO.
Now Metphone also has the possibility they call fttp. It's a kind of satellite dish like antenna connecting to the 3G signal, broadcasting wi-fi around. This means you can have wi-fi around your place without any wiring connected. They promise 6Mb down, but can't confirm the speed. Price is 30 USD / month, 6 month minimum. of course this solution is less flexible than a USB dongle which you can use around Cambodia.

I have net through the post office. Its around 20 for installation then 11 per month. Its not amazing but for 11 bucks its good. Just ask at the post office opposite the boat pier for rabbit island.

USB dongle , good thinking I had that a while back when I was there but the office closed down a few months ago so recently I've been using smart pay as u go...need a strong connection though as I will be working online (hopefully)
(I shud specify that I'm around 15km from the main Kep area toward Kampong trach )

In that case a 3G dongle is maybe your best option, asuming there's a 3G signal there, otherwise you have to EDGE which is available nearly nationwide but reallt slow. Here in the Northeast there's no way you can get a wired connection to the internet even 2 KM out of town.Greentrees wrote:Thanks for the replies

You could try if Metfone offers their new service there.
In kep you can get Fiber optic connection from metfone,
Adsl from cambodia telecom,
4G available from metfone, Seatel and Smart all around kep, cellcard i dont know.
4g with Seatel is very cheap especially at night they offer unlimited 4g for 1cent per night. They also offer unlimited 24h dor 4usd/month but after 3gb they lock your speed at 256k which isn't 4g but also isn't too bad.
Cambodia telecom will install another line of fiber from PP this year afaik.

Your comment about using the phone as a connector means you always have to carry the USB cable with your laptop to connect your phone is incorrect. I frequently use my phone as a personal wifi/hotspot for my laptop. The connection is not via a cable. It's either wifi or bluetooth. I think it's wifi but I could be wrong. it's definitely not a cable though.Kachang wrote:Why not use a dedicated 3G dongle?
