The compound isn't in BKK1. And don't bother commenting on topics that you know nothing about, you'll just end up looking foolish. There are important events going down at the moment, your facetious comments aren't really needed. How about you just fuck off and buy a pineapple?
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Killing two birds with one stone:- being stupid and disrespectful, it's a funeral procession, not a garment worker's protest.ali baba wrote:I'm gonna go and I'm gonna wear an inflammatory t-shirt.

There is however another side to the coin. There does seem to be a strong belief among a section of his supporters that he will appear, if he then fails to do so, it may well damage him. Also he has to leave the Headquarters building at sometime, and there may never be a better opportunity. In fact it could be his own tipping point, attend and once and for all supplant Rainsy as leader of the opposition, or continue to hid and gradually see support drift away,as people begin to realise that he might as well have joined Rainsy abroad. Pictures in the english language press of him meeting random western diplomats and politicans in his bolt hole don't do much to energise his supporters outside the capital. Rainsy isn't exactly helping, by antagonising the free trade unions, with his call for sanctions against the garment industry.LTO wrote:I dont think so. He would definately be arrested. It would definately lead to violence (as they try to arrest him and the crowd tries to prevent it.) This is all very predictable so if they do put him out there it would be an obviously calculated move to spark violence, and they probably don't want to be quite that obvious.horace wrote:The word on the street is yes but I don't think so

Ominous article on CEN.
http://www.cen.com.kh/local/01994151 with the headline;
"Phnom Penh Authorities: Adversaries Could Cause Disturbances During Kem Ley Funeral Procession"
2,000 police been put on duty. 3rd paragraph says that 'adversaries' and some social organisations could instigate unrest by bringing guns and explosives into the procession.

If they don't pull Kem Sokha out of his hole I doubt they would arrest him surrounded by hundreds of thousands of supporters.

Yes, but then on Monday he'll be in jail, and the whole point of holing up in his office for the last couple of months (i.e. to avoid jail) will have been lost.Gareth Byrne wrote:There is however another side to the coin. He not only has to attend the funeral, but he has to get there, be exposed for 90km, and then get back to his office afterward. Logistically very problematic. But admittedly, this would be quite a challenge to the government. It would be an amazing display of people power and government impotence if he got away with it. Not a challenge the government could let pass I think.Alexandra wrote:If they don't pull Kem Sokha out of his hole I doubt they would arrest him surrounded by hundreds of thousands of supporters.

I guess a couple of other variations could be that they have chosen tomorrow to be the day he is martyred and goes to jail for a cause. Or maybe they are counting on the revolution starting tomorrow, by which government threats of jail become moot.
