If that is representatve of the entire length of the procession, and the procession is 5km long as reported by LICADHO, then i would estimate the crowd at about 150,000, give or take, (with emphasis on that density - medium/dense - being representatve of the full 5km,)Alexandra wrote:

Over the last week and a half since the incident happened, all the men talk about in the steam and sauna are the actual events, the shoddy camera footage and the cctv failures. My life is bored from all that talk.

Mrs PH relayed a claim that the government has ordered petrol stations along the route closed. Anyone else heard that ?

Lichadho have claimed that petrol stations are "blockaded", and some vehicles have run out of fuel. On a side note talked to relatives and friends setting out to see the procession, most common reason among the young was "'it's something to do", while the elders thought one should show ones respect. Only one person, the founder of our villages branch of the Human Rights Party expressed any sort of political viewpoint, and he's still convinced that Kem Sokha will make an appearance.

Well, there had to be something the government would do to fuck with this....gas stations closed. Makes it difficult for riders to complete the procession in that traffic. Will the hearse even make it?

Can't be sure, but growing up in an area subject to not infrequent riots, the first thing the authorities do in anticipation of a riot is close the gas stations. Molotov cocktails and all. Though, as the procession has been peaceful to this point, and they are trying to leave town, some authority on the ground should be ordering them opened. Bad planning on the part of the authorities to create an obstacle to them leaving town. Surely they don't want a quarter million people turning back into the city.

They have enough cops along the route to watch the stations for Molotov makers....it's those gas bottle sellers that have premade ones you need to worry about....idiots.LTO wrote:Can't be sure, but growing up in an area subject to not infrequent riots, the first thing the authorities do in anticipation of a riot is close the gas stations. What kind of evil spirits would be unleashed if they ran out of gas before reaching Takeo?
First they banned walking. Then they ordered gas stations close. And then, inferno?
Bless

They could just do it traditional style - put the body on an ox cart and start walking.
Gotta wonder what the authorities were thinking here. I understand the fear of bomb making, but didn't they consider what might happen if the procession runs out of fuel half way there? Can't go forward, can't go back. Hot and angry. This seems almost as well thought through as the murder.
